Oh @yellowstonenps, one of my unexpected favorites. I remember going as a kid and thinking it was alright, but as an adult, I could spend daysssss there. While we all definitely enjoyed the scenic hikes and viewpoints, searching for wildlife is my fave thing to do. It’s imperative that you have the right tools - like @lexiealbaeck’s binoculars and a zoom lens - if you want to find/photograph wildlife in a national park. Kyoto is just pure magic! For our next few posts, we're happy to "shrine" some light on our favorite temple visits in this city of over 1600 temples and 400 shrines! ⛩️🇯🇵 Kiyomizu-dera Temple is a must-visit in Kyoto! This is one of the oldest temples in Japan built in 773 and offers breathtaking views of the city. We were lucky to experience beautiful Kiyomizu-dera at sunset. The most spectacular thing about this temple is that there was not single nail used in the construction of the complex. The most spectacular thing about our visit was that we carried a stroller up and back down hundreds of stairs to visit it, and survived! 😂 📍 Kiyomizu-dera, Kyoto, Japan 🇯🇵

One of my favorite things about National Parks is that they can give you the opportunity to try new things. When we were at Dry Tortugas National Park, we met a very sweet couple and they let the kids borrow their paddleboards. For HOURS. And said kids fell in love with paddleboarding and they ask to go all the time. Which reminds me, we still need to get paddleboards. Antigua March 2024: Part 2 (a day trip inland)! ☀️ First, we visited Betty's Hope Plantation, where we learned how rum used to be produced. Under the grueling sun, you could easily imagine how difficult the work was, as well as compare the living conditions between plantation managers (a huge stone foundation for their homes) and slaves (just a field and a recreation of a hut). Our youngest child loved roaming around here but the older two kids were too hot to take it all in 😅. Thankfully there were a lot of picnic tables in shady spots where they could rest. ✅ Must do! 🐴 Then we went to Antigua's Donkey Sanctuary Human Society. Donkeys were brought to the island for plantation work! We were happy to donate to this good cause. Unfortunately it was feeding time when we arrived, so we couldn't brush or pet most of the donkeys (we were told only a few liked being petted while eating). ✖️ Not a must do. 🫖 We wrapped up our day trip with lunch, juices, cakes and coffee at the Antigua Vintage Tea House. We absolutely recommend this spot for anyone and everyone! Calm teahouse setting, beautiful gardens, refreshing juices, yummy baked goods, and a windmill with extraordinary views. Our next stop off was at amber cove ~ Dominican Republic Fun fact : Jurassic park was actually filmed here in 1993 and it’s now the island /port for carnival cruise ships which means we was on a private island 🏝️ It was all secure but there was so much to do here . They had a massive pool with water slides and a lazy river , bars in the pools with djs and party games , plenty of shops , bars and coconut stands and my favourite thing of all was the zip line that went right across the island over the pools . My son and I done it together it was $28 dollars per person for unlimited rides , we didnt last long mind as the steps upto it in that heat were killers but we had a fair few goes and we absolutely loved it . DAY 6 DAY AT SEA Today was a day at sea and was our first real chance to explore @odysseyoftheseasofficial properley. The ship is huge and even after the full week, we still hadn't had time explore everything the ship had to offer! The ship was perfect for families and children with plenty to keep them entertained. There was a kids splash pool with little slides, bumper cars, rock climbing wall, flo rider, ifly, arcade, kids club and much more! The choice of complimentary food was amazing. Our favourite was the windjammer world buffet with so much choice and a great option with kids! We also enjoyed the pool snack bar El Loco serving Mexican cuisine. The burritos were gorge! ad| One of our favourite things about spring is our weekend bike rides as a family. It doesn’t matter if we’ve rode for hours the previous day, the kids will still jump at the chance to get out on their bikes and now even more so thanks to @bobbinbicycles. 😍 Megs went for this gorgeous metallic blue design (Arcade 24”) which not only looks great but has 8 gears, fun retro gaming graphics and is tailored for stability. They’re such sturdy bikes whilst still being really lightweight and it wasn’t long before she was beating Harry and Eva around the track which didn’t go down well and she’s still gloating about it 3 days later. 🤪 Fingers crossed this sun sticks around so we can get a couple of bike rides in before the weekend. My kids have been visiting National Parks since they were little. In fact, @nicholasalbaeck’s first National Park was Rocky Mountain NP when he was just a few months old. As the kids have gotten older, they’ve had more of a say in what parks we visit and what we do while we’re there. In addition to doing the Junior Ranger books, they like picking out hikes and overlooks to check out. And of course, they like taking photos of everything they see! 😉 What was the first National Park you visited? 22nd April 2024 - Earth Day 🌍 I’ll be honest, I always worry about posting about stuff like this. It’s because there is always something more we can be doing. I love to travel. Love it! I love getting to experience different countries, climates and cultures. I am also aware that air travel is a contentious subject in regards to protecting our planet. That is why I also like the above quote from David Attenborough. I personally love to travel and I love to share these experiences with my children. I feel that this has helped them respect and admire the world we live in and we are all very grateful for the experiences we’ve shared and memories we’ve made. As a family we are also very passionate about protecting our planet. Therefore, we do our best in the ways we can. We try to make positive changes to our lives wherever possible to know that we are trying and we are doing something. Trying to do it all just isn’t possible and I found it incredibly overwhelming and often disheartening. As Dubai slowly dries out, we were able to get out and start exploring. We went to the mall of Dubai, Dubai Fountain and Burj Kalifa all in one day. The city truly seems to come alive at night, and things are definitely busier at night than during the day. Overall, Dubai has not been our favorite- although it may not have truly gotten a fair chance because of the weather. It has not been easy to get around and although we have enjoyed exploring, we are ready to move on. We have some more things we want to see before we go. Yesterday we hired a car and spent the day exploring the Volcano National Park. We walked through lava tube tunnels, walked across an active volcano, checked out black Sands Beach where we saw turtles just chilling on the sand, found volcano vents where we got to experience the sulphur being blown in our face. ad| Take me back to these blue skies and snowy slopes in the 3 valleys. We’ve only been back home for 2 weeks but already our holiday feels like a distant memory - although I’m still hobbling around on my knee injury! 🙈 I’d hoped that by the time we got home the weather would have sorted itself out and we could pack away our ski gear for another year but actually the kids have still been wearing their ski jackets just to get through another cold, miserable day here up north. 🥶 The great thing about the @tog24official ski range is that you really can wear the jackets all year round. It can sometimes feel like a big expense to kit out the whole family for just one weeks holiday a year but we’ve had so much wear out of ours and the kids have had their coats for 2 years running now and there’s still some growing room left yet. Whilst we often talk in a very spirited way about the ‘destinations’ that we visit (I too am guilty of this) it is important to remember that these are actually people’s homes. That’s not to say that we shouldn’t visit, because many of these places rely on visitors for their economy. But, there is much more that we can do to be more responsible travellers. Here are some ways that we help our clients to be more more sustainable in the way they travel: 🌎 Consider visiting ‘off season’ when there are few crowds and just as many experiences. Some experiences only happen at this time, like whale watching in Iceland. 🌎 Choose locally owned hotels and those who are adopting sustainable travel practices. 🌎 Partnering with local guides and immersive experience providers. This is not only the most insightful way to experience a place but also makes a positive impact on the local community. 🌎 Where possible we promote using transport that has a positive impact on the environment. Whether that is electric vehicles, using trains rather than internal flights or cycling and walking. 🌎 For itineraries that feature wildlife, such as our African safaris we are careful to only work with those that promote animal welfare and conservation. This #earthday we are proud to share that we are working with our local suppliers to eliminate the use of single use plastics by 2030. Do you actively look for those companies that promote sustainable travel when you are booking your holidays?
