The breed of the day for today is the Blue Lacy. This breed was originally created for hunting and herding. They weigh 30-50 pounds and they are 18-21 inches tall. Blue Lacy need about 60-90 minutes of daily exercise, as well as mental stimulation, training and playtime. They don’t make good apartment dogs due to their high energy level. Most Blue Lacy are good with children, but like all breeds they should always be supervised and children should be gentle and respectful. They can be good with other dogs if they are socialized with them at an early age. They are not good with cats. Blue Lacy are low shedding dogs. They have average grooming needs, only requiring regular baths and nail trims. They live about 12-16 years on average. Health issues this breed struggles with are color dilute alopecia, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, hypothyroidism and food allergies. All of these problems can be prevented by health testing before breeding, and other ethical breeding practices. Blue Lacy highly trainable. Dog sports this breed enjoys are herding, tracking, scentwork, barn hunt, agility, obedience, rally obedience, and trick dog training. I could never imagine life without Meesa. 🥹 A few weeks ago, Meesa was diagnosed with kidney disease 🙏🏾This year we’re celebrating her 18th birthday and whether her disease is chronic or acute, I’m committed to giving her the best quality life I can in her lifetime. I had a very low moment recently when the same week I had the flu, she had a UTI and wasn’t her normal energized self (for a senior dog). We were both going through it and I’d never been faced with her mortality before. It’s like I just have had it in my mind that she’d live as long as I would, right? For the past 11 years, I was like “Meesa is immortal” or something. I finally get why even at 30 years old, my father still tells me that “You’ll always be my baby. I don’t care how old you are.” I really get it now and I don’t even have human babies, yet. 🥹🥹 Thanks for reading.
