When I joined the Board of Chopsticks Alley about a year and a half ago, there were a few projects I wanted to produce with this org. This show, Locus of Control, by poet Jason Bayani is one of them. In my opinon, Locus of Control is spoken word at it's best. The writing is amazing, and Jason's delivery is authentic and powerful, but the presentation as a whole (biographic storytelling with childhood photos, poems, and turntables) is particularly unique and captivating, and unlike anything I've seen in the spoken word/poetry slam scene. That's why I'm so stoked to announce that Chopsticks Alley Art is bringing this show to Olinder Theater on Saturday May 11th, at 7pm! Tickets are FREE (cause that's how Chopsticks rolls!), but I suggest getting in the building early to secure a seat. AND in honor of Asian American Heritage Month in May, there will be an AAPI Festival and artist fair before hand starting at 5pm. She spent her early years writing songs, rhyming poems, reveling in short horror stories, and even creating her own hand-stapled children’s book to read aloud to the stuffed animals and echoing walls in her bedroom. It wasn’t until recently though that she truly understood the importance of keeping her work alive, for after sustaining consecutive traumatic brain and spinal injuries, it was her reignited passion for putting paper to pen that reminded her of who she was.
