I recently went on a walk that passed Adlestrop, Gloucestershire. This village bus stop has the old railway station sign and a copy of Edward Thomas's poem, written in 1914 shortly before the start of World War One (his poem is on the second slide). The first poem I posted on IG was a Golden Shovel based on Adlestrop, which I include below (I couldn't get the format of that original to fit with these photos! It's on my grid, 11 Aug 2022 in a prettier format 😊) Birdsong after Adlestrop by Edward Thomas With the return of the heat and the lack of rainfall we looked for the familiar goldfinches that often flit around our trees, minute by minute their absence making a noticeable void. No blackbird has visited - the last one sang over a week ago, a sentinel close at hand, perched on top of the roof by the ridgeline, as he sat scanning and singing across the countryside round about looking for his mate. Save for him there was no sound. Evening grew mistier as the sun dropped lower, farther down below the rose tinged horizon and the rising moon came into its own. Farther above the first stars began glinting as all the sky flooded inky blue. Night-time, the high heat finally dropping, let the birds find some respite from the stolid toil of their existence. It's crucial to prioritize ourselves over toxic relationships or fleeting affection. Instead of compromising our self-worth for love that adds no value to our lives, let's choose self-love and self-worth. Break the cycle of sweet poison and prioritize what truly matters. Don't compromise your values or worth for someone or something that ultimately brings no value to your life. You deserve so much more! I would never tire of encouraging you to choose yourself over someone who makes you question your self-worth. I wish I would have met you later in life. We really messed things up the first time around; we probably shouldn’t have even been together that year, but we gave it a shot. Now, though, it’s three years later, and I’m not sure what we’re doing. Hanging out, hooking up, whatever this is. It’s not exactly ideal, and yet, every time you text me, I find myself with you again. We’re never going to be together the way I want us to, though…the way we used to be. Maybe if we wouldn’t have screwed things up the first time, things could work for us now. Maybe if I didn’t meet you until now, we could have been together. Do you think that if we had met later in life, things could have worked out for us? I like to think we would have been better off that way. Who knows, maybe there’s still a chance for us now…or maybe we already lost it. BOOK REVIEW: LYRICS OF A TANGLED HEART💙 by Sanyam Jain POETRY✨ A perfectly-synced, well-paraphrased, heart-wrenching, gluing, emotional, and deeply conscious Anthology of English Poetry by Sanyam Jain. Pleasing to the eyes, pleasing to the soul. The book is such a wonderful piece of Marvel, with its stark black and white pages symbolizing the shades of poetry with beautiful graphics, and brilliant poems in perfect sync and layers. I have to say, that the poet wanted it to be perfect, as if he was sharing his true soul with the world. I honor how respectful he was with his deeply profound poem of acknowledgement to his mother, and his respect towards the person, who became his muse to compile this book. Divided by the poet, into three parts, the first part of the book gently drives you into the lanes of poetic embrace with the giggles of infatuation, myriad hues of romance, metamorphosing into love, with the second part exhibiting the brutality and ache of a shattered soul, the endless ache of a grieving heart, as it finally makes its way through the process of acceptance, healing, re-discovery, and hope with the third, and final part, leaving the readers with a refreshed and energized soul. . A verse from Part II "Expressions of love", "Even the thought of separation tears me apart. I can't imagine how my life would be, If you won't be a part of it, And that makes me wonder, If love has any limits". While going through the first part, I realized that the poems have been written simply compared to the much more complex later parts. The compositions are pure and livid, written with such a clean motive, that it truly aches your heart to feel the pain, that one must have witnessed, as things would have drifted apart. Every single person who has witnessed the blessing and curse of a true lost love would feel how rhythmic and naive the poems are. "Favourite Drug", is a masterpiece poem. . With Part II: Heartbreak, you hear the desperation and the yearning of your one true love in the poet's voice, where he looks for light, and searches for it, in his one true soulmate. In this part, he adopts a bit of “Charles Bukowski meets Atticus” (CONTD IN CAPTION⬇️)
