Gauging the temperature of a secondary and tertiary home market can sometimes be a challenge. It is a bit like cooking on a BBQ, different people have different ways of assessing it and sometimes it comes down to your instinct. In a recent conversation with an experienced agent at another Brokerage their assessment of the market was that “the first 8 weeks were lost, dead, no action”. I had to take stock and think about my experience of the first quarter of 2024. It didn’t reflect that feeling at all. If I am honest, the first quarter of 2024 has been exhausting. It is not that throngs of buyers are marching in the door, or that sales have outpaced the same period in 2023, it is that sales are happening, with more decisive buyers, and things are building, and that building takes time, and precision. I always like to remind our team of a quote from Robert Redford in the movie Spy Game, “When did Noah build the arc?... Before the flood”. That is where we feel the market is right now. Looking across the real estate landscape there is a plethora of new developments that are underway, with representation of Brokerages across the country. 🏝️ARC Review🏝️ “Their Last Resort” by R.S. Grey Macy | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Release date: May 1, 2024 I think I just read my new favorite R.S. Grey book. And in typical Macy fashion, my only complaint is that I want more. I need a full 8 book series of Cole and Paige’s life together in Turks and Caicos (or traveling around the world and working at various destination hotels). This writing is witty and emotional and just plain fun. I feel like R.S. Grey’s has me wrapped around her writing finger. Sometimes, I’ll read a passage and it just sounds like something my inner monologue would say so it’s like she’s sitting on my subconscious and marking it up with a pen. (I was obviously on a major book high after finishing this book and not even sorry if that doesn’t make sense.) Cole and Paige are textbook enemies to lovers and it works so well. There’s a bit of adventure and tension due to the hurricane and the whole bit about working at a luxury hotel, but also their banter is top notch. I’m gushing about this because I loved every second of it. If you are new to R.S. Grey’s books (welcome my friend), I know her backlist is a little daunting because she has so many publications, but this is a great place to start. Plus, this book is on now Kindle Unlimited so what do you have to lose? Nothing. That’s what. “Run Forrest run!”. May 1st the last three years has been the start of @theagencyre @givebackhomes 100 Mile Challenge. An Event that is (disappointingly from my perspective) not happening this year (not sure why). Given that I am ‘beat up’ physically and mentally probably for the best although even limping I would have got it done more so for the personal willpower check than that of common sense (I get a good telling off from my Doctor, physio, and wife every year for doing it). I will therefore be ‘running’ in a different way this month of May as I work to make up for a frustrating and disappointing Q1 by crushing it in Q2. That’s the great thing about real estate, you can restart the clock at the beginning of every month, every quarter, every TCREA real estate year and every calendar year. What has happened before is yesterday’s news and the focus is (and always should be) what is in front of you. April was good. I intend to make May better. Outside of ‘maybe’ a quick weekend trip to Miami to get some new glasses (can’t work if you can’t see!) this month will be spent ‘boots on the ground’ in TCI as I have multiple customers coming to see me, all with the intention of purchasing. This first day of May starts however with responsibilities as TCREA President. Now at the halfway marker in my tenure I am learning that every day is a new adventure in this role. The proverbial onion has layers… make one person happy and somebody else is pissed off. Make that person happy and you find that you’ve upset someone else. And so it goes, wasting a ridiculous amount of time in the process. Unbelievably it does feel like the EC (who I feel collectively are doing an excellent job) is making slow progress… or maybe that’s wishful thinking on my part!
