T A S S E L S is out in the world friends, fam and fans! I am so excited for this song and I hope it becomes your new summer bop this year. Two summers ago I was lamenting to my producer how I was feeling very uninspired to write lately. She reminded me that inspiration can come from something very simple and from places we least expect. After I got off the phone with her, I saw this kid riding his bike past my house. It was golden hour and the light danced on his floppy butterfly cut as he raced down my street. It reminded me of all the days I spent riding bikes with my siblings and friends, often until dusk, the days I rode my bike to and from my restaurant jobs, the many days of riding my bike to university in North Vancouver. To me, riding a bike is one of the ultimate freedoms. You power the movement, you decide where to go. You make the magic happen. Reminiscent of days gone by, the Juno synth sparkles brightly and the guitar lines pull on the heart. Make this nod to riding your bike in the 80's/90's, a nod to 2024 rides. I hope this song becomes one of your new summer bops and that you have a dance party to it, ride your bike to it, and sing along. Now go ride your bike! I have dreamed for so long to release electronic music. Specifically to release an electronic version of one of my songs. I have always thought it was so cool how genre can bring out different sides of the same song. I think as a musician itās easy to get hung up on genre, and feeling this weird pressure to stick to one thing. As if an audience wonāt know how to handle the sudden change in sound. Iāve been a bit quiet on here when it comes to posting regularly and I think that Iāve been feeling really overwhelmed with whatās been going on in the Middle East. Iām trying my very best to educate myself both sides of the conflict because I believe that knowledge is power and when we know better, we do better. Iāve found it really hard to be creative in the last little while because of what weighs heavy on my heart. This Thursday-Saturday , I will be participating in a songwriting/composition retreat and I am really excited to be around others to get the creative juices flowing again. There was a LOT of demons I had to battle to finally make my almost decade long dream of recording another album happen, and the biggest thing for me was learning how to get out of my own way. I knew I was going to need to call myself out and stand up to those thoughts of self doubt. I started doing something that began as an idea on how I could help others, but what happened was this thing actually ended up helping me. And finally, with this new habit, I was able to reach the finish line of this 10 year dream. Vague, I know lol. Tomorrow I will be releasing a video talking all about it, and about what worked for me to finally start taking the steps forward. To all my friends and followers, thank you for your continued support over the years on my musical journey. In January 2023, I hired an artist coach @emmgryner to work with me on setting and achieving goals that would help propel me further in my career as an artist. Emm was so helpful and the experience allowed me to really grow this year. In the spring I started playing with a band and played a ton of gigs over the summer, which I am super grateful for. Working out harmony parts for a new project I will be a part of this fall. 1993 looked good on us.
