✨ G is for Guitar ✨ My guitar is usually my one constant that I have with me. It is a go to instrument because of all the different ways it can be used. Some sessions though, I do not use the guitar (ex: if I’m doing a finger play song, using other tools & visuals, or its client preferred). With the vast ways of playing the guitar it can support individuals and a variety of goals. Whether it’s strumming, fingerpicking, playing soft melodies, or having a strong rhythmic beat, the guitar is a great tool for music therapists! Outside of playing a client preferred song, here are some goal areas the guitar can support: ✨ transitions ✨ sensory regulation ✨ relaxation ✨ creativity & exploration ✨ gait ✨ communication ✨ reducing stress & anxiety ✨ & so much more! But, like I mentioned above, sometimes I don’t take my guitar with me and that’s because it’s client preferred. I have some kiddos who do not like the guitar and that’s okay! This was Gwen a few weeks ago at music therapy, having fun! She still had bursts of energy but was definitely getting very pale! It’s almost hard to notice when she is more pale than usual when you see her every day because she’s so fair-skinned to begin with. I loved this day at music therapy because it felt like she was getting her summer legs out and ready for warm days and fun! She’s been going to music therapy for the past year but it’s been really up and down. Most of the time she hasn’t felt well due to her heart and anemia issues, but she still tries her best every week. Now that she’s had another blood transfusion. she should have a lot of energy for music therapy and I can’t wait to see how it goes this week! Gwen will also be returning this week for a blood draw to see how her red blood count is holding up, and she’ll be having an echo and an EKG. Very anxious for all of those tests and I’ll be sure to share the results! #downsyndrome #musictherapy #anemia #chdawareness

We had our anniversary event and we were joined by @royalberkshirefire. FZ recorded the entire evening with a view to creating an album project. Although bits were released by Zappa over the years, a full live album never happened and the tapes sat in FZ's Vault for 55 years.
