Here’s a new series of “cat mounds” I’ve recently made. A friend wanted to buy a small work from me but the one he liked was unavailable. So, I said I’ll make one, or two similar, in the same vein and give you an option . I’ve been making them on spec but they have yet to say “ that’s the one”!. Someone has expressed to me they would like this series to an upcoming art fair. Great! Darling you’ll need to decide soon! Or not, but I’ve said yes! It was quite by accident my signature “gravity bound mound “ one day sprouted some ears. It’s a representation of shape shifting. A few years ago they sprouted legs. Thus a theme of mobility for the mounds began. ArT21: Incluir, Criar, e Abrir Novos Caminhos. Na tarde do dia 3 de abril recebemos a visita da roteirista e escritora Mami Seguchi, cujo livro de sua autoria "Amor, uma fadinha muito especial", foi base para a produção da peça "As Aventuras da Fada Amor". Compuseram a comitiva a jovem Gabriela Carrara, atriz T21 (Síndrome de Down) protagonista da peça atualmente em cartaz no Teatro Itália Bandeirantes, e o pequeno artista visual Henrique Yasuhiro, também T21, filho e inspirador da autora. A iniciativa e proposta do Projeto foi formulada pela Dra. Márcia Regina Büll, Curadora de Artes Visuais, e Diretora Geral de Projetos da OSC Ação, Ética & Cidadania, que acompanhou a equipe. Todos foram recepcionados pelo Designer, Tipógrafo, Professor Marcos Mello, e pelo Professor Rodrigo Venturini Soares, e executaram pequenas tarefas a título de “ensaios” na Oficina Tipográfica São Paulo. Inspirado por las enseñanzas del antiguo filósofo taoísta Laozi, por el artista moderno Brancusi y el legado de experiencias de vida formativas con su familia en Alemania y la India, Laib crea esculturas que parecen conectar el pasado y el presente, lo efímero y lo eterno. Trabaja con materiales orgánicos perecederos (polen, leche, madera y arroz), así como con materiales duraderos que incluyen granito, mármol y latón, basa su trabajo en la elección de formas: cuadrados, zigurats y barcos, entre otros. Su minuciosa colección de polen de flores silvestres y arbustos que crecen en los campos cercanos a su casa es parte integral del proceso de creación de obras en las que el polen es su medio. #ttw, I spent Valentine’s Day weekend with Richard Serra In 2000, I had the opportunity to shadow Richard Serra with a camera during the installation of “Charlie Brown” at the Gap Inc. headquarters in San Francisco. It was a rainy Valentine’s Day weekend and we shut down the Embarcadero as the piece was hoisted through the roof of the unfinished building. PBS was on-site filming the production for their Art-21 series. Look it up — it’s worth watching. Richard named the piece after Charles Schulz who had died just the day before. Mr. Fisher didn’t seem thrilled with that at first, but I think it grew on him later. I shot this hand-held, manual-focus on 120mm transparency film with my Hasselblad-500. Most were with the 80mm/2.8 Zeiss Planar lens… this was pre-auto-or-digital-anything and what’s pictured here is straight out of the camera with zero manipulation.
