AMBUSH. Olive pythons are skilled ambush hunters, utilising classic sit-and-wait tactics to capture unsuspecting prey. As frequent rocky country residents and capable swimmers, many olive pythons will utilise waterholes in their pursuit of a meal. I first saw an olive python using a small rock pool for this purpose nearly seven years ago, and about ten metres from where this photo was taken. The area abounds in diamond doves, peaceful doves, spinifex pigeons, and an array of finches, as well as wallaroos and purple-necked rock-wallabies. All of these animals are fair game for the python (body size permitting), which will wait patiently in this position - completely submerged except from the eyes forward - until something comes down for what might be its final drink. I had a (Rockhampton) Northern coastal carpet lay a nice clutch today, and I was shocked how big it was, a whopping 14 eggs. She’s maybe 5 ft. Raptor Domain It's the second time we've been to this incredible park and we loved it just as much as we did the first time. The bird's of prey and reptile handlers, were brilliant. They were so knowledgeable about the wildlife, and conservation of the species, and their passion for their jobs was contagious. Felix has always had a phobia of small birds but managed almost the entire show without putting his headphones on (until the cockys made a noisy entrance 🤣). He even volunteered to hold one of the beautiful Tawny Frogmouths. The highlight of his day was holding one of the gorgeous pythons. He couldn't wipe the smile off his face.
