Eileen Stone was my inspiration for giving back to our community. She served refugees, homeless, and created a truly remarkable event every year. She was a brilliant writer, you can find several of her books in local book stores and online. I am so grateful to have known her for a couple of decades. You’re a rare gem. April 6 ~ part one Enjoyed our continental breakfast at Ruby’s Inn, before leaving Bryce and heading to Zion. By this time we were leaning towards pure exhaustion from the nonstop fun. We opted for a small hike in the prettiest National Park in my opinion. Zion is quite special. This is a collage of pictures and some footage from the Kolob Canyon section of Zion National Park that's located off of I-15 in Southern Utah, just after Cedar City, 17 miles to be exact at exit 40 and 40 miles north of the main section of Zion National Park. This section is often overlooked and less crowded than the main section but it is nonetheless, an underrated and beautiful section to explore. One of my favorite trees and spring scenes in Salt Lake City is here at @hipandhumble ! I make sure to stop by every year and photograph it. A few years ago a beautiful mural was added by @chrispetersonstudio ! It’s the cutest gift store ever in the @9thand9th area and they have two stores at the SLC airport. The hills are alive.....with the stripes of colors...... This area of southern Utah was new to me. When we arrived, it was very cloudy and threatening to rain. It was about a 5 mile drive down a clay/dirt road, which when wet can be impassible. It had rained earlier and the colors in the bentonite clay and surrounding areas were absolutely saturated with color form the water. I didn’t quite know where to point my lens first. I had to work pretty quickly as the sky began sprinkling us with rain. I grabbed as many compositions as I could, knowing I would return at a different time, but not wanting to miss those colors. We had to drive out of there very quickly as the rains came down. Luckily, we made it before the road became a pile of mud. The Great Chamber at Cutler Point, Grand Staircase Escalante region, UT. This huge alcove has a giant sand dune inside. A geological wonder! Getting here is part of the adventure. The drive is all deep sand and rock crawling, ATV or 4x4 only. Our second hike on our second day in Moab turned out to be an unsuccessful attempt to reach the waterfall at the end of Mary Jane Canyon. I wouldn’t even say we hiked rather crisscrossed Professor creek as it intertwined with the trail at least a million times. This might be an awesome summer hike when you take off your boots, socks, put on hiking sandals and just simply walk through the creek. But it was too cold for that on March 31st. Unfortunately we were also running out of time and only later - when we had cell service - realized we turned around not far from reaching our destination. Bummer.
