A little look behind the scenes from the past few months in the workshop. . . Being a one woman operation, I’m literally doing everything - sourcing, design, wood prep, blank building, turning, photography, editing, web design, sales, social media, customer relations, marketing (am I missing any?!) I love sharing images of finished pieces looking all pretty but I think seeing how everything started and the process it takes to get from A to B is also super interesting and important. A large part of my time in the workshop is dedicated to design and wood prep, especially when creating the segmented pieces that originate as scraps / offcuts. Despite how time consuming this can be, I love searching through the boxes of off-cuts for hidden gems and discovering new wood combinations / color palettes that I’ve not tried before. Highlighted here are a some frequent steps in the creation process - batch creating bowl blanks, preparing the wood before a glue up, stabilizing spalted / soft wood, trying out wood combinations, personalizing items with laser engraving and, of course, me in action at the lathe 🤓😎 . .

If you’ve been following along with my (@yourchicisshowing’s) Instastories, then you know this has been quite the week complete with trips to both Urgent Care and the ER. What started out as a small bump on the nape of my neck (which I ignored) grew into an infection that spread on my head, neck and down to my shoulders. It was not fun but I am FINE, recovering and resting. I did gather a few lessons for myself and my fellow business owners that I wanted to share. The No. 1 lesson being — TAKE OFF THE SUPER WOMAN CAPE!! It’s a trip down memory lane today @chateaudebourneau as many of you kindly told me that we’re back on your screens 📺 in the UK 🇬🇧 on @channel4 for re-runs of @chateaudiy 🎥🎬. In this series, @jbaygois scaled the height of the château to check out the roof and I brought out my paint palette 🎨 to start creating copies of our original château portraits to display around the château. This is because the original portraits hang in our private wing, where they were painted specifically for the Red Salon and they have hung there together for over 160 years. I wasn’t keen to disturb them and awake the ghosts 😉 so I thought it would be the perfect creative project that enables our guests to meet the family that called Château de Bourneau home too without me moving the family from the room where they were meant to be displayed. I took photographs of the portraits and had them printed on canvas and then added texture and detail with oil paint and varnish to match them to the real versions. I then found antique frames to display them so our guests can now enjoy meeting our château ancestors too! This was such a fun project and I’m looking forward to doing this again with another portrait very soon… Wishing you a lovely evening

Remembering Dann Cahn, who was born on this day (April 9) in 1923. He was the film editor of “I Love Lucy,” so he was a very important behind-the-scenes person. Someone had to edit the film for all of those iconic episodes, and that was the brilliant Dann Cahn. Starting college again for the first time in more than 5 years! I'm going back to getting a degree in Early Childhood Education. When I first went to college, I studied Secondary Education with a focus on TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and English. I decided to make the change to ECE since I saw how significant the first 8 years of life are, especially regarding how it affects the rest of our lives. Yesterday was the first day of the term, and I'm already digging into the reading. I'm so grateful to have the resources to start going again. This has been something I've wanted to do since I dropped out. I always knew I was coming back. 💕🫶 My goal is to work as a direct consultant/coach for parents who need extra support and resources for at-home education. This journey lights me up incredibly, and I'm excited to see where this takes me. 🙏 Thank you, God, for this opportunity and clarity in my path. 💖 P.S.
