One Of Six - Vertrauen Nach den schrecklichen Ereignissen im Resort versuchen die Überlebenden sich wieder in ihrem Leben zurechtzufinden. Schnell wird allerdings klar das der unbekannte Mörder noch immer frei ist und es auf die restlichen der Gruppe abgesehen hat. Luca, Devon, Jacob, Anna, Leander und Christine müsse herausfinden wer hinter ihnen her ist bevor noch jemand oder sie alle sterben. Band 1 habe ich vor kurzem gehört und trotzdem hatte ich am Anfang meine Schwierigkeiten mich wieder in die Geschichte einzufinden. Mir viel es etwas schwer die einzelnen Personen wieder zuordnen zu können. Als ich das dann wieder intus hatte gab es für mich in der ersten Hälfte des Buches leider ein paar Längen. Das lag vermutlich aber daran das sich viele Fragen aufgetan haben ohne das Dinge aufgedeckt wurden und man nicht richtig miträtsel konnte weil es keine wirklichen Hinweise auf den Täter gab. Dann kam noch hinzu das ich mir auch mehr Kapitel aus Sicht des Täters gewünscht hätte. Ab der Hälfte des Buches kam dann aber die Wendung, endlich gab es mehr Kapitel aus Sicht des Täters und man merkte gleich das er gar nicht so weit von unseren Protagonisten entfernt ist. Durch die neue Täterperspektive wurde es für mich spannend und ich habe den Rest des Buches verschlungen. Ich hätte mir am Ende einen etwas längeren - ich nenne es mal Endkampf - gewünscht, trotzdem war ich dann doch recht Happy mit der Geschichte. Der Schreibstil war wieder super, man kam flott durch das Buch. Ich bin immer noch sehr froh das Buch als Hörbuch gehört zu haben die Idee den Täter mit Stimmenverzerrer einzusprechen finde ich immer noch genial! La mia breve e limitata esperienza con gli autori giapponesi mi ha fatto capire il perché faccio fatica ad apprezzare la letteratura nipponica. Se da una parte infatti il suo punto forte è questo essere sospesa tra vita e favola risultando così delicata e onirica, dall’altra questo stesso aspetto risulta per me essere di impaccio: proprio come le favole spesso mi risulta troppo scontata, con una scrittura estremamente semplice, lenta e troppo esplicativa. Infatti ho capito che i momenti in cui riesco ad apprezzarla meglio sono quelli in cui ho voglia di leggerezza e semplicità. PLAYING FOR KEEPS by @jl_dugan Pub date: 4/30/24 by @penguinteen It seems like this month is all about the baseball books! That's not a complaint, as it's perfect timing for baseball season. I haven't gotten to Fenway yet this year, but I did finish this one while cuddled up with Fatty this weekend. ❓Do you have a favorite baseball team? I didn't really watch baseball until college, and after I moved to Boston for grad school, I was swayed to cheer for the Red Sox. Fenway is an awesome place to watch a game ⚾😍 This YA sapphic romance between high school senior girls, one who wants to grow up to be a professional referee a la @sarahthomasofficial and one who is the star pitcher for a baseball team, was such a great read. I really enjoyed the characters, and their successes as well as their frustrations and communication issues seemed age appropriate for teenagers. This is my first book by the author and I'm excited to read more of her work - and recommend this to my high school students. Many thanks to the publisher and @netgalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. This read left me feeling optimistic, and I'm excited for others to get to read it after it's available everywhere on Tuesday. My school library will definitely be getting a copy!

I had a fantastic weekend hanging with them and their mom and appreciate their willingness to be subjected to a photo shoot 😹♥️ Synopsis: Daphne moved to Waning Bay, MI for her fiancé, Peter, only for him to unceremoniously announce that the wedding was off because he was in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Miles, Petra’s ex, shows up looking for her and Daphne decides to move in to Miles’ apartment. Petra and Peter quickly get engaged, inviting Daphne and Miles to the wedding, prompting Daphne to claim she and Miles are dating (plot twist, they’re not). Daphne reveals she is staying in town until the Read-A-Thon, a fundraiser for the public library where she works as a children’s librarian. In an attempt to convince her to stay Miles plans weekly Waning Bay excursions to win her over to the city. Through spending time together they discover maybe their dating story isn’t so fake after all. My thoughts: At a glance: 😍🥹😕🥰 In depth: I was nervous about this book! I loved Beach Read and really did not like Happy Place and I was pleasantly surprised. I’m not sure if this is a micro trope, but when typically buttoned up, quiet Daphne screamed at Peter when he came home from his bachelor party and kicked her out, and then proceeded to chuck Costco almonds at his car, I cheered and laughed! I love when women call men out for their callous behavior and stupidity, sometimes being the “bigger person” is overrated 😂 I loved both Daphne and Miles and really identified with Daphne. I admit, the big thing they had to overcome at the end felt a little forced and stilted to me but the book was so well written- funny, intelligently emotional and warm, that I shrugged and moved on. I have read all of this author’s adult books and this one is officially in my top two, just below Beach Read but ahead of Book Lovers. #qotd Have you been to Michigan? ✨ Happy Sunday ✨ I hope everyone is having a relaxing day. 🥰 I’m just stopping by to share some thoughts on my latest Agatha Christie read: Black Coffee ☕️ This is a novelisation of the play that was originally performed in the 1930s (hence the tie in with this month for #ReadChristie2024!) 🎭 Black Coffee really encapsulates a Christie story. There’s an old country house with a range of characters who all seemingly have something to hide. The plot is quite straightforward, and there aren’t necessarily any interesting twists and turns, which is perhaps unsurprising of a 1930s Christie story - there’s less of the shock factor or playful plots that are typical of later Christie novels. I definitely think this one stands up as a play (which I’ve seen performed before!), and doesn’t work as well when novelised. Nonetheless, it’s still enjoyable and easy to read. 🩷 P.S. Thanks to the author @calebstephensauthor for the gifted copy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Brynn is leaving her tattoo shop when she is abducted by her convict father and forced on a road trip. He wants to keep her safe from the creatures he says will erupt from the earth at any moment. A creature horror story that was unlike any other I’ve read. I think my favorite part was the uniqueness of the creatures. I’ve never read or imagined creatures like them; utterly destructive. The characters were great and I really connected with Brynn. It would have.” Though my photo makes light of the title, House Arrest really is a wonderful book following a 12 year old boys road to “moral recovery”. The court system claims Timothy is a criminal because he stole a wallet to buy the medication his brother desperately needs to survive. But what we see through Timothy‘s journal entries, which is how the book is formatted, is that Timothy just a little boy who loves his family and his desperate for them to be OK. I have had Les Misérables in my mind recently, so I couldn’t help but connect these two stories, because it is the age old moral dilemma of whether sometimes it’s right to do the wrong thing. I am pondering using this book in my classroom next year. Book review: The New Couple in 5B by Lisa Unger ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Rosie and Chad Lowen are newlyweds, and they’re barely making ends meet. Chad’s uncle passes and leaves them his apartment, a beautiful unit in the Windermere, a luxury building in the Murray Hill neighborhood of NYC with a long and colorful history. As the Lowens settle in, Rosie gets the distinct sense that something isn’t right. Between the ever-present doorman, neighbors who seem to know a little too much, and the building’s history of violent crime, Rosie is thoroughly creeped out. When a neighbor dies suspiciously, Rosie becomes determined to find out what sinister presence is really lurking in the halls of the Windermere. Old New York money meets Rosemary’s Baby in this twisty new thriller. I LOVED the gothic paranormal setting (though I thought it was too light on the paranormal, which I found slightly disappointing), and some of the best parts are the flashbacks to the 60s and getting to know some previous residents of the Windermere. I don’t think everything quite came together at the end. I wish there had been more explanation of the spiritualism that had been introduced earlier—that whole plot line kind of fizzled. But overall, I really enjoyed this book. I have about 100 pages left in Funny Story but I already know I'll be rating it as high as I can go. ✨Brief Summary✨ Daphne and Miles have had a rough go of it lately. Their respective partners both dumped them to run off with each other. Daphne is left with a wedding dress, lots of wedding supplies, and no place to live. Miles offers up his extra bedroom for Daphne until she can get back on her feet. When they receive a wedding invitation to Peter and Petra's wedding, they spin a fake dating story to get under the skin of their exes. Will they fall in love in the process? And will Miles help Daphne fall in love with Northern Michigan? This Northern Michigan setting is just *chef's kiss* Emily Henry is really painting Michigan in a beautiful light and I am absolutely here for it. In true Emily Henry fashion, the book is well written, funny, and full of bookish content. I can't wait to read the last 100 pages of this novel! ❓Have you read Funny Story?
