Although I get a chance to work with a ton of people and dogs, sometimes the problems stated don't always present themselves. But this time, it did with excitable Luna. First, we solved the human walking problem (calm leaders/calm dogs). Then we came across cats, three to be exact, and instead of avoiding and going the other way, we met the "problem" head-on. We stayed where the cats were and created calm. As has happened tons of other times through the years when I do this, the cats then started approaching the dog in a calm way. Why? Because they recognized that leadership was controlling the excitement and that they were just as safe as the dog. Animals know leadership. BTW, other "trainers" told Jessica she would have to use a shock collar to accomplish this because of their limited skills. THEY need that because they have no other tools in their limited toolbox, but this was right after Luna tried to lunge forward, got corrected by a tug on the leash, and then Jessica moved forward with an interested but controllable Luna. No tricks, or tools that don't exist in the wild. Just clear, calm, confident communication and rules. And a proper understanding of Dog Psychology. Did I mention they wanted thousands of dollars and were going to take Luna away for weeks? After watching this video, let me ask... FOR WHAT? Prayed for them since I was a child haha. Growing up I always knew I wanted to work with dogs but all I and most others knew about "dogs training" was basic obedience, which honestly seemed pretty boring to me. I then found Cesar Milan, The Dog Whisperer, and was immediately enthralled as a youngin' by this guy who's way of working with dogs was first and foremost to connect with nature. We have to first understand and form a relationship with the creature before asking it to do so much for us. It was also wild to see how many dogs he was able to connect and live with. Then to see how his pack members could help other dogs who lost themselves and say "you still have value, you can strengthen us."
