Last week, KidsCan were delighted to host 6 Altrincham Grammar Sixth Form placement students who had the unique opportunity to work at the KidsCan labs looking at research of the following: 🔬the processes of determining the toxic effects of compounds on cancer cells and healthy cells 🔬the process of cytotoxicity assay The students also spent sometime in the offices exploring fundraising ideas and how to support the charity. Anne was 8 years old when she asked the orthopedist if her lower left leg could simply be removed. Three years earlier, she had been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, the donor bone had become infected, and she was attached to a pump. That thing got in her way, she wanted to go to school, cycle, get her swimming diploma, play with friends. Her lower leg turned out to be beyond saving. With her laconic question she spared the doctor a difficult conversation. Anne passed away in 2020. Even though Anne was so young, she taught me to live with her humor and zest for life. Every step I take and every choice I make, I take Anne and her wisdom with me.
