There are couple tea houses that you can rest in but they might not be open depending on the season! Trains make infrequent stop at the nearest train station so definitely check the schedule! ⊛ ¡Planes de senderismo en primavera! La ruta del cañón de Chomonkyo ⊛ 🚆A media hora en tren desde Yamaguchi (JR Yamaguchi → JR Chomonkyo) se puede realizar la “Ruta del cañón de Chomonkyo”, que discurre paralela a un tramo del rio Abu en su descenso hacia el Mar de Japón. 🥾Es un recorrido de algo menos de 3 horas y media (10 km) si se realiza completo de ida y vuelta. El sendero está bien mantenido y no presenta dificultades si se lleva calzado adecuado. Chomonkyo Gorge is a scenic spot designated as a national scenic spot in 1923 and is a beautiful canyon along the Abu River that stretches from Hagi City to Yamaguchi City. Beautiful valleys such as strange rocks, waterfalls, and the abyss are impressive. The nature that changes with the seasons, such as wild cherry blossoms in spring, fresh green in summer, colored leaves in autumn, and snowy scenery in winter, heals the heart. Autumn leaves are especially famous, and the colorful autumn leaves dye the surface of the water red, and the valley changes to the most beautiful season of the year. Town Map Pin No.1 is the recommended view spot. Also, if you walk a little upstream from the parking lot, you will find a sweetfish restaurant called Ryugu Chaya (Pin No. 2 on Town Map), which has been in business for 60 years. The surrounding area has a nice landscape, so it is recommended that you take a walk with reference to the Town Map. I’m trying to enjoy the fall colors as much as possible before the leaves fall off. Getting my timing right is proving to be a challenge, but I’m loving all of the reds, oranges, and yellows that I’m seeing everywhere. Last Thursday I finally made it to Chomonkyo for their fall colors. I’ve hiked part of this gorge many times, but always in the summer. This has been on my list every year for fall foliage viewing, but it just never worked out. SO happy it worked out this year because it was a beautiful hike. From one end of Chomonkyo to the other is about 5.7km. I hiked both ways, breaking for lunch at Roadside Station Chomonkyo restaurant. They have amazing beef bowls that are made with local beef. My favorite beef bowls! If you don’t want to hike both ways, there is a shuttle available in the fall (03Nov-23Nov for this year). The fee for the shuttle bus is ¥1,000 per adult and ¥500 per child. Parking is free and there is no fee to enter the gorge. There are restrooms at both ends, but I didn’t see one along the hiking path. The hike is not very difficult at all, but the path can get a little narrow in some spots.
