🇧🇦 Día 12 Bosnia Herzegovina: de Metkovic a Mostar. Hoy retomo el viaje donde lo había dejado, cruzando la frontera hacia Bosnia y Hercegovina. La primera frontera de verdad, ya que no forma parte de la UE. Me tuvieron 20 minutos esperando para echarle un ojo a la documentación pero no fue ningún problema, supongo que con otros pasaportes hubiera sido mucho más difícil. Ya camino de Mostar sigo por una carretera que va encajonada entre dos paredes de roca y junto al río Neretva. Justo antes de llegar a Mostar empezó a diluviar y acabé casi empapado. Por suerte, llegué al alojamiento que hoy había contratado, quería ver la ciudad y nada mejor que pernoctar cerca de su centro historico. Je dois admettre que je préfère les questions tout aussi fréquentes : "quelle est ta mission ?", "pour quelle cause collectes-tu des fonds ?" ou "où est ta voiture ?". Au moins, j'ai des réponses simples à ces questions, mais celle-là, j'ai du mal à y répondre moi-même et encore moins à y répondre de manière satisfaisante à la volée sur le bord de la route... Przyznam się, że momentami myślała o zawróceniu do domu. Stwierdziłam jednak, że nie będzie mi tu żaden wiatr dyktował gdzie i w którą stronę mam jechać 😁😉 I tak się teraz zastanawiam, który wiatr był gorszy: ten wiejący prosto w twarz czy ten który atakuje niespodziewanie z boku? 🤔 Pod wiatr, mimo desperackiego machania nogami jak jakiś wiatrak w upalny dzień, jechało się z prędkością ok. 3 km/godz 🙈 - szybciej by się maszerowało. Wiatr boczny? Telepał Heńkiem jakby był on przedmiotem jakichś egzorcyzmów! 🤣 Mimo wszystko każdy kilometr pokonany podczas tej wycieczki był wart trudu. Morze - by je zobaczyć mogę jechać 40 km choćby i pod wiatr (pocieszałam się, że drugie 40 km w drodze powrotnej będzie z wiatrem 🤣). It has been 5 years since I started this trip(the plan was only for 2 years😅) and although I love travelling I need to take a rest and see family again 😅 So I'll be heading back up north over the next few weeks towards Buenos Aires and will fly back to Europe and then from there ride back to the Isle of Man. Nous passons quelques jours à "Cloudy Bay" tout au sud de île. La baie est bien mal nommée, nous avons eu un temps superbe! Les falaises de Dolérite sont superbes et les vagues immenses. Au bivouac du soir, nous nous retrouvons cernés par une vingtaine de pademelons/wallabies! Ils n'ont vraiment pas peur, sont très curieux et essaient même de nous voler de la nourriture..! Nous rencontrons aussi des wallabies... blancs! C'est une particularité de l'île. Ce sont bien des Wallabies de Bennett, mais albinos. Ils paraissent particulièrement irréels! . 🇬🇧 We spend a few days at "Cloudy Bay" in the very south of the island. The bay is badly named, we had superb weather! The cliffs of Dolerite are superb and the waves immense. At the evening camp, we found ourselves surrounded by around twenty pademelons/wallabies! They are really not afraid, are very curious and even try to steal food from us! We also meet white wallabies! It is a particularity of the island. They are indeed Bennett's Wallabies, but albino. 🇭🇷 Día 11: Croacia (Dalmacia) de Makarska a Metkovic. Después de un merecido día de descanso en Makarska continuo mi viaje por la costa de Dalmacia que me sigue mostrando rincones encantadores e increíbles vistas, así da gusto pedalear y el sufrimiento de las cuestas se hacen más llevaderas y casi ni te acuerdas que estás subiendo. La carretera de la costa me lleva hasta Ploče donde la abandono para ir hacia el interior en direccion a Metkovic en la frontera con Bosnia Herzegovina por una carretera siempre a orillas del río Neretva. Après un rapide passage à Hobart, nous sommes restés une semaine sur Bruny Island. Bruny c'est deux îles reliés par un isthme appelé "The Neck". À cet endroit un point de vue perché en haut d'un escalier permet d'embrasser du regard presque toute l'île! Nous laisserons nos vélos pour marcher un peu, encore pour des pointes de bout du monde comme le Cap de Cloudy Bay. Une vue époustouflante et le sentiment d'être seuls au monde depuis là-haut. Et comme la rando "Fluted Cape" : après une bonne montée au milieu des eucalyptus, l'horizon s'ouvre soudain sur la mer. Vue impressionnante jusqu'au bout de la Tasman Peninsula! . 🇬🇧 After a quick visit to Hobart, we stayed a week on Bruny Island. Bruny is two islands connected by an isthmus called "The Neck". At this place, a viewpoint perched at the top of a staircase allows you to see almost the entire island! We left our bikes to walk a little, again for points at the end of the world like the Cape of Cloudy Bay. A breathtaking view and the feeling of being alone in the world from up there. And like the "Fluted Cape" hike: after a good climb among the eucalyptus trees, the horizon suddenly opens onto the sea. . Hello 👋🏼 I thought I’d try an intro post seeing as so many of you have connected over this last year of adventure and maybe you’re curious about the back story… so here goes nothing! I’m proudly Welsh 🏴 and I appreciate even more after this year of travelling how much this means to me. The language, the culture and how much our ancestors strived to protect these will always be a strong part of my identity. In 2015 I moved to Bristol 🌉🐊 and I found it super lonely to be in a new city at first I eventually built an amazing community of riders and adventurers there. It’s where I call home for now, until we figure out where we resettle after returning to the Uk. 2017 was a big year for me, I was signed up to race The Transcontinental and Liam came into my life. The race didn’t end how I imagined but it transformed my life as I’d found my passion in long distance cycling and I’d found my life and adventure partner 💕 Chronic back pain 🩻🦴since late 2019 I’ve been living with mysterious night time back pain. At times it’s been unbearable and I’ve had to endure a lot of stiffness and sleep deprivation and at times I’ve thrived managing well on movement practice, physio and osteopathy. Camping ⛺️ has always been a reliable trigger so when we started this trip I really wasn’t confident we’d get much further than Peru. So given I’m writing this in El Chaltén I’m beyond grateful to my body for getting me this far… but I am ready to sleep a bed again 😂 And finally… how did I get the nickname Dr Thunderthighs?! When I started uni I took up rowing, the first sport I ever loved and it turned out I was really strong 🦵🏼💪🏼🏋️♀️ so I became McThunderthighs. This might have also spared my crew-mates having to use my surname 😂 and after I got my PhD 👩🏼🎓 my nickname got the upgrade! The thunderthighs live on even if I left academia a long time ago! No, it wasn’t a truck. I know the sound of a truck by now, and it can’t be that. The noise I can hear from the tent is definitely something else. It’s 5am, I open the door and see a few massive air balloons very close to us, that are being pumped up. This noise can be heard all around. Pierre and I both jump out of the tent to discover balloons getting ready all over the valley. It’s still dark but as fire is blown into them, they light up for a magical experience. As they get into the air, our excitement is at its maximum, especially when some get very close to us! I had seen photos before of Cappadocia but the experience is much more than the picture and little did I know I would love it that much. 😍 (Unfortunately we stayed a second night but because of the wind not a single balloon flew..) We feel very lucky to have experienced that beautiful show 🥰🤩 🎈 . . 🇭🇷 Día 10 Croacia (Dalmacia): de Split a Makarska. Bueno, pues después de una noche en el ferry me despierto de la mejor manera, con un bonito amanecer sobre la silueta de la Costa de Croacia. Una vez desembarcados del ferry Tom @tomgrufti y yo nos fuimos a tomarnos un merecido desayuno antes de nuestra despedida. El camino te une pero también te separa, y como bien cicloturista te vas acostumbrando a las despedidas de personas entrañables. Y después de una pequeña visita a la ciudad de Split pongo rumbo a Dubrovnik por la carretera D8, conocida como la carretera del Adriático que me ofrece unas vistas panorámicas del Mar Adriático y atravesar pintorescos pueblos costeros y playas encantadoras. Según voy avanzando el clima va cambiando y la amenaza de lluvia se convierte en realidad y comienza a llover. Estoy muy cerca de la localidad de Makarska situada a las faldas de la maravillosa montaña de Biokovo, donde pongo punto final a la jornada. 〈Glacier View→Glennallen〉 Most of roadside stores which cyclists rely heavily on to survive were closed for season in the area. This fact made it very difficult to go forward. Foods and water were regularly in short. I wouldn't have made it without what I was given by drivers passed me by. Beside I had no place to take a rest because campsite were closed as well.
