And that wraps up one full year of Black Cat! This is my pride and joy. I started this business when I was 19 years old and had no clue what my place in the world would be after being in extremely restrictive programs for my entire teenage life. I got through that time by surrounding myself in media that kept my mind anywhere but the place I was. I wanted to create a space that felt welcoming and fun, a place you could come and just nerd out. Black Cat has become such an important part of me and I cannot wait to see where it goes next. The people that I have met on this road are incredible and I owe them the world. Dallas has been such a wonderful city to build this in because we sorely lack places like this. I never thought I would be a full business owner by 23 nor that the skills I have learned up until now would be invaluable to the comic and record business. I know we post a lot about music on here, but I just wanted to take a minute and highlight my other love. Comediennes. 🖤 Starting at age 11 or 12 I got really into sketch comedy. I found myself being drawn to the women in comedy more so than the men. Of course I have my favorite male comics, BUT who made the biggest impact on me, were women like Lily Tomlin and Gilda Radner. I was a goofy little girl and they inspired me to stay that way growing up. They were so funny and cool and never took themselves too seriously. Yet they were still very confident in/ sure of themselves and their beliefs. Honestly, amazing role models. 2022. August. I was asked to do a shoot for @blackcatrecordsncomics a couple of months ago and they were such a fun crew. The store itself doubles as an intimate concert venue and has the coolest indoor AND outdoor vibes. The mural work alone is amazing, but the store is packed to the gills with records, manga, comics, T-shirts, posters, and so many collectibles, too. It’s located in Dallas near Gilley’s, next to the Alamo Drafthouse.
