Wir haben viele Wochen um ihn und sein Wohlbefinden gekämpft. Letztendlich um sein Leben 😓 Seine erblich bedingte Krankheit zwang uns vor wenigen Tagen leider dazu, ihn zu erlösen. 💔 Falko war stark, hat sehr gekämpft... Erst vor wenigen Wochen verlor er und auch wir seine Mama Maike, die aufgrund ihres hohen Alters von uns ging. Ein großer Verlust für uns 💔😔 Auch wenn es schwer fällt, muss es weiter gehen. Die Trauer im Team ist dennoch groß. Falko hat mit seinem Wesen viele Herzen berührt. Today would have been my grandma's (dad's mum) 100th birthday. She passed away in 2014 a month before her 90th birthday. Dover in Kent was where she was born and raised and was a place she loved. So much so that my dad, auntie and uncle scattered her ashes on the White Cliffs. This photo's from my first proper visit, in 2020, having only travelled through the town before to catch the ferry to France. So a visit to the cliffs was top of my list of things to do there and it was like being with grandma again. Mum and dad (in the photo with me) joined me for this part of my stay in Dover and it was important to share this walk along the cliffs with them. I will definitely be visiting Dover and the cliffs again, as it is such an important place to my family. Many people only think of it as a port, but there is so much more to the town, like the castle, cliffs and countryside, that I really think it makes a great day out or weekend away and encourage anyone to give it a go! You'll be pleasantly surprised! I have old cellphones and digital cameras that I let my nephews and students use to take photos with. Then, I review the photos and upload them to our exoexplorersstudents iNat account. ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) Day, a National Day of Remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders who sacrificed in all wars, conflicts, peacekeeping operations and the contribution and suffering of those who have served. Observed on 25 April each year, Anzac Day was originally devised to honor the ANZAC members who served in the Gallipoli campaign, their first engagement in the First World War (1914–1918). Poor blokes, drafted by the British Empire to battle, unknown to them of the impending doom that awaits them in Gallipoli. The thoughts of a swift allied victory costing 500000 troops, unfortunately resulted in a loss, with the retreat of all Entente units. Though the Gallipoli campaign failed, news of the landing at Gallipoli awakened the national consciousness of Aussies and Kiwis at home, bequeathing an intangible but powerful legacy that remembered the heroic actions of the ANZAC troops. In the Second World War, ANZAC troops assisted the Brits again and battled in the Battle of Greece, Battle of Al Alamein, the Malayan campaign, Kokoda Track Campaign, Battle of Coral Sea as well as in Borneo. The Katyn massacre was a series of mass executions of nearly 22,000 Polish military officers and intelligentsia prisoners of war carried out by the Soviet Union, specifically the NKVD („People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs”, the Soviet secret police) in April and May 1940. Though the killings also occurred in the Kalinin and Kharkiv prisons and elsewhere, the massacre is named after the Katyn forest, where some of the mass graves were first discovered by German Nazi forces. In their memory, ribbons of the Polish (white and red) flags were placed on the fence of a primary school. Remembering Carlos Castañeda 🕊️ Yesterday, we lost Carlos Castañeda, a beacon of the coffee world and a cherished icon, known to many as Mr. Juan Valdez. For the last 20 years, Carlos donned the persona of Juan Valdez, bringing to life the spirit and passion of Colombian coffee farmers. I was fortunate enough to meet Carlos briefly at the recent Specialty Coffee Expo in Chicago. His warmth and the twinkle in his eye reflected the pride and joy he took in representing Colombian coffee. Carlos was more than a character; he was a symbol of the hard work and dedication within the Colombian coffee community and beyond. In memory of my little (second) cousin, Kaleb, who passed away of a rare heart condition, #wpw #wpwsyndrome when he was only 5. He would be in his early 30s now.
