I'm adding historical and mythical characters to my Dunluce Castle wimmelbild drawing as we speak! I can't wait to share the my progress with you all 😁But until then have another peek into my artist research journal for Dunluce Castle! This time all about the origin of its name and how archeological digs show items dating back as far as the 9th century. They even found a tunnel called a Souterrain that runs under the north tower. 🇨🇭 Nach einer stürmischen Nacht am Binevenagh-See fahren wir frühmorgens zum 11 km langen Strand von Downhill. 🏖 Anschliessend erkunden wir den Mussenden Temple. Dieser runde Tempel wurde als Sommerbibliothek gebaut und steht spektakulär auf einer Klippe. Gleich nebenan befindet sich Downhill Demesne, ein beeindruckendes Herrenhaus aus dem 18. Jahrhundert. 🏰 Wir passieren die kleine Küstenstadt Portrush, die weissen Kalksteinklippen White Rocks und Dunluce Castle, bevor wir die Old Bushmills Distillery, die älteste lizenzierte Whiskey-Brennerei der Welt, erreichen. Hier nehmen wir an einer sehr intetessanten Führung teil. 🥃 Weiter geht es zum Giant's Causeway. Dieses Naturwunder wurde vor etwa 60 Mio. Jahren durch vulkanische Erosion geformt und besteht aus rund 40'000 gleichmässig geformten Basaltsäulen, von denen einige bis zu 12 m hoch sind. 🪨 Nach dieser grossartigen Wanderung machen wir einen Abstecher zu den Dark Hedges, einer Buchenallee, die durch die Fantasy-Saga 'Game of Thrones' weltberühmt wurde. 🌳 🇬🇧 After a stormy night on Lake Binevenagh, we drive early in the morning to the 11 km long beach at Downhill. 🏖 We then explore the Mussenden Temple. This round temple was built as a summer library and stands spectacularly on a cliff. Right next door is Downhill Demesne, an impressive manor house from the 18th century. 🏰 We pass the small coastal town of Portrush, the white limestone cliffs of White Rocks and Dunluce Castle before reaching the Old Bushmills Distillery, the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world. Here we take part in a very interesting guided tour. 🥃 We continue to the Giant's Causeway.
