Castle Bled is a medieval castle (circa 1000 AD) built on a cliff above the city of Bled in Slovenia near Lake Bled, with amazing views. When it was built, the area belonged to the Holy Roman Empire, and likely just consisted of the Romanesque tower. Additional fortifications were added over time and in 1278 it passed to the Austrian House of Hapsburg. There is a chapel in the upper courtyard, which was built in the 16th century and renovated around 1700. The castle also has a drawbridge over a moat. Two massive round towers, diagonally opposite, flank the main building. The outer bailey is bordered at the corners by massive towers, which, with sloping bases, reach down into the moat, which was then fed by Erft water. In the middle of the 19th century, the castle received its neo-Gothic appearance through a thorough reconstruction. 🏰‘i’m finally home at Schloss Lieser’🇩🇪 I missed my library so much!📚 Visited 3 countries (Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany), friends in 2 different capitals (Bruxelles & Luxembourg-City) and the cities of Trieste & Lieser in the German Federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate!🇩🇪 Schloss Lieser (Castle of Lieser) in the Mosel valley nearby Bernkastel-Kues is one of the most striking buildings within the village of Lieser, Germany. The building houses 49 rooms, Kaiser Wilhelm II visited the castle very often. The castle was created on the site of a 1710-built church property. Today’s castle was designed by the architect Heinrich Theodor Schmidt in 1884–1887 as the residence for the family of the winery owner Eduard Puricelli. Eduard Puricelli founded and led several gas industries, including in Trierand also in the Rheinböller hut. A ceremonial gate, a gem of architectural perfection, a fortress, a prison and the first image of a rhino in Western Europe - this is Belem Tower in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. The tower was built in the 16th century -the Height of the Portuguese Renaissance - on a basaltic island in the mouth of the Tagus river. The style is Late Gothic Manueline. Technically, the structure consists of a bastion and a 4-storey 30m tall tower. Look closer while there and you will see signs of the Order of Christs, zoomorphic motifs, images of beasts and twisted ropes that hint to Portuguese geographical discoveries. Eltz castle in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate. It dates back to the 9th century. Then it was just a keep or a tower that was later surrounded by walls and supplemented with other structures. The castle stands on a rocky outcrop and is surrounded by the Eltzbach river from three sides. It used to be a key stronghold controlling an ancient Roman trade route. Since the 12th century - that's when its core was built - it has belonged to the three branches of the same Eltz family (one of the oldest and noble families in Germany). Actually, the castle has been a shared property. There are 8 towers reaching some 40m which housed more than 100 rooms. Oberhofen castle in Switzerland was built around the 13th c. on the shore of Lake Thun. The oldest part of the castle – its keep – dates back to those old times while the palace and a chapel were built in the 15th c. The castle belonged to the Habsburgs for a short period of time only to be retaken by the Bernese who occupied Oberhofen in the 14th c. Since that time it has become the seat of a bailiff who governed the region and was appointed by the government of canton of Bern. The castle got a major overhaul by the 17th c. The original medieval keep was partly surrounded with new buildings constructed in the Bernese Baroque style. In 1844 the castle became a summer residence of the noble Pourtalès family from Neuchatel and Prussia who took good care of the complex. They made a large park on the shore of the lake and renovated the buildings. The little tower which stand rights in the lake was adorned with a spire. There’s also the Oriental smoking room at the top of the keep – imagine the spectacular view of the lake and mountains. Coucher de soleil depuis le château de Haut-Barr ( 67 Saverne) Le château du Haut-Barr est un château médiéval en ruines situé sur la commune française de Saverne, dans le département du Bas-Rhin. Il a fait l’objet d’un classement au titre des monuments historiques depuis octobre 1874. Le château du Haut-Barr se trouve à 2,5 km sud de la ville de Saverne, à cheval sur les bans de cette ville et du village de Haegen, sur un étroit éperon s’étendant vers le nord à partir de la montagne du Brotschberg, entre la plaine d’Alsace à l’est et la Zorn à l’ouest. Sur le même éperon se situent également, au sud du Haut-Barr, les château du Petit Geroldseck et du Grand Geroldseck, tandis que sur le sommet opposé, de l’autre côté de la Zorn, se trouve celui du Greifenstein. Cet emplacement, qui offre une vue dégagée dans toutes les directions, a valu dès le Moyen Âge au Haut-Barr le surnom de Oculus Alsatie, « l’œil de l’Alsace ». Le château en lui-même se trouve à 450 m d’altitude, sur une barre de grès, orientée nord-ouest, de 250 m de long et environ 15 m de haut, de laquelle émergent trois grands rochers de plus de vingt mètres de haut. Parmi ceux-ci, celui situé au centre est le plus grand, avec 80 m de long, bien que sa surface utile soit réduite du fait d’un rétrécissement en son centre. Il est relié au sud par un pont au plus petit rocher, dit Markfels, qui mesure 25 m de long pour une dizaine de mètres de large. Enfin, au nord et à 55 m du bloc médian dont il est séparé, se trouve un troisième rocher de 65 m de long pour 8 m de large. Day 1 - 3rd stop - our main reason for this trip was to visit #bolsovercastle and the links to the #stuartera we had been learning about. It was a fine example of #architecture in its position on the hill and wonderful courtyard space and walled garden. It also heavily focused on the stables and riding arena. Torhaus Markt Erlbach. Das aktuelle Tor stammt aus dem frühen 18. Jahrhundert. Eine Befestigung des Marktes dürfte aber schon viel früher eingesetzt haben. 1384 wurde Erlbach als "oppidum" also als ein befestigter Ort urkundlich erwähnt. Somit dürfte eine Befestigung des Ortes im 14. evtl. in abgeschwächter Form schon im 13. Jahrhundert bestanden haben. ~•~•~ Gatehouse of Erlbach Market. The current gate dates from the early 18th century. However, the market was probably fortified much earlier. In 1384, Erlbach was mentioned in documents as an "oppidum" - a fortified place. Spora ilość ludzi myśli, że Śląsk to miejsce, gdzie nie dochodzi Słońce, dziura zabita dechami, nie ma w nim nic ciekawego. Wiek ery przemysłu hutniczego i kopalnianego to już wspomnienie. Wspomnienie świata blichtru, ogromnych fortun rodzin tworzących krajobraz Śląska, który znamy i widzimy. Najdłużej Świerklaniec został w rękach jednej rodziny-Henckel von Donnersmarck. Rozbudowywali oni swą rezydencję w renesansowym i potem też barkowym stylu. W XIX wieku najbardziej znamienity członek rodu-Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck. Mały Wersal. Jedno z najpiękniejszych założeń parkowo-pałacowych nie tylko w Polsce, ale i Europie. Pałac zaprojektował Hector Lefuel (nadworny budowniczy Cesarza Francji, Napoleona III!). Fasadę zaprojektowano na modłę Wersalu, czyli baroku. Pałac był niezwykle komfortowy i pełen przepychu. Fontany obok pałacu zaprojektował również Francuz-Emmanuel Frémiet tworząc po bokach 4 walki zwierząt natomiast na środku przed zejściem przed samym pałacem zaprojektował fontannę Trzech Gracji. Nieopodal Pałacu zbudowano dla gości zwanym Pałacem Kawalera, który miał pokazać wszystkim cały blichtr rodziny. Niestety nadszedł rok 1945. Wchodząca "subtelna" Armia Radziecka spaliła zamek jak i pałac. Spotkałem się kiedyś z anegdotą, iż Sowieci zdzierali skórę z pałacowych krzeseł i robili z nich zupę. Ruiny dogorywały tak do 1962 roku kiedy mimo sprzeciwu konserwatora zabytków wysadzono je w powietrze, całkowicie niszcząc śląskie dziedzictwo. W pałacowym parku można dalej oglądać i podziwiać fantastyczne fontanny, Pałac Kawalera oraz mauzoleum rodzinne. Mauzoleum jest wyjątkowe, bo odbiega od reszty założenia stylem neogotyckim. Park w Świerklańcu to idealne miejsce na niedzielny spacer. Jest w nim sporo ludzi ale mogę go naprawdę szczerze polecić (wychowywałem się niedaleko 😁). @batview Il Castello di Bisceglie consiste in un insieme di strutture che si sono evolute attraverso i secoli. La versione maggiormente accettata afferma che le sue radici affondano nell'XI secolo, sotto i Normanni di Pietro I conte di Trani, il quale oltre al castello fece fortificare il borgo di Bisceglie, trasformandolo in una vera città difesa da mura. In base ad un' altra versione, invece, il castello vero e proprio, successivo alla sola torre difensiva, risalirebbe al XIII secolo, nell'era Sveva. Testimonianze Angioine e Aragonesi parlano di espansioni e ristrutturazioni, trasformando il castello da bastione militare a centro della vita civile. Dopo secoli di cambiamenti, inclusa la demolizione di parti del castello nel Settecento e l'uso come botteghe artigiane nel Novecento, oggi il castello è oggetto di un attento restauro. Northumberland is full of beautiful views but this has to be up there with one of the best. Holy Island is such a wonderful place to spend a day, with stunning views around each corner.
