It is Earth Day today. We are celebrating by showing off the huge variety of habitats in our Borough and all the plant and wildlife they support. In Council, we are working towards restoring our habitats, one site at a time. See below for a small insight of what we are up to: 🌼 We are taking part in #nomowmay at sites across the Borough. 🐝 We are maintaining our #dontmowletitgrow sites and creating new ones. 🌳 We have been busy planting trees across the Borough - look out for a final count post. 🐂 We have been using traditional grazing techniques to manage important grass and dune lands. 🪵 We have begun restoring woodland at Dungiven Castle Park. 🚧 We are tackling invasive non-native species. 🤝 We are working with many other organisations to protect, maintain, conserve and enhance natural spaces across the Borough. 1 - sea cliffs, marine and farmland, between White Rocks beach and Magheracross Viewpoint. 2 - saltmarsh and fen, Bann Estuary. 3 - species rich grasslands and meadows, Waterfoot and across the Borough. 4 - beaches and islands, Ballycastle and Rathlin. 5 - glens of wood, pasture, heath and bog, Glendun and the Glens of Antrim. 6 - rivers, The Bush at Bushmills plus the Bann, Roe and many more. 7 - woodlands, Greysteel Glen and beyond. 8 - peatbogs, Altarichard, Binevenagh, Ballymoney and a multitude more. 9 - sand dunes, Portballintrae/Runkerry and across the coastline. 10 - forestry, Garvagh and others. #earthday #earthday2024 #habitat #biodiversity #ccgcoastandcountryside #causewaycoast #causewaycoastandglensboroughcouncil #causewaycoastandglens #woodland #saltmarsh #fen #peatbog #heath #glensofantrim #cliff #sea #marine #forest #river #sanddunes #beach #meadow #grassland #conservation #environment
