A few yummy crops of the new canvases I’ve been working on for the last few weeks. I’ve been deliberately taking my time with them, which is unusual for me. Normally I work much more quickly, but it has been an interesting experience pacing myself and seeing how they develop. I think they’re nearly there now. We are looking forward to moving across the floor to start the day with the brilliant Orley Quick from BOTH Dance Classes Orley is a London-based dance artist and teacher. She is a key promoter of life-long learning, revelling in teaching those who think it’s too late to start dancing and loves the malleability of contemporary dance as a movement technique and choreographic medium. She has taught dance in a range of vocational and community settings for many years including FE colleges, universities and adult colleges, specialising in contemporary dance, improvisation, choreographic approaches and dance theory. Her teaching style is playful, sensory and energised. Alongside her teaching work, Orley performs and choreographs, with a particular interest in collaboration. Her choreographic work is rooted in social commentary and relationships. In 2018 she created, alongside her colleague Beatrice Ghezzi, BOTH Dance Classes, a teaching initiative that offers dance classes to adult learners in South East London. Here are the two pieces I worked on yesterday. It was tiring working on this scale I felt like I had done a workout when I finished. It also felt liberating making big bold marks with the paint. I’ve been working on my wooden collage constructions today, they are extremely difficult to photograph! I hope you get the drift. These are made from found and donated materials including driftwood, metal, sails, string and paper. All of the materials are balanced against each other rather than being secured. At the risk of boring you, as I have shown you two stages of this painting already and you are very probably already aware of the advantages of an Apple Pencil and Mark up, I’m risking showing you it again. I’m not a sketch book user but really enjoy trying compositions out on my iPad, so it was a sad day when my iPad bit the dust last weekend☹️ Luckily I have a horribly big birthday this year!! so didn’t feel guilty investing in an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil. The iPad Pro is great, but what I feel I need to share is my amazement at the quality of the Apple pen!!!! Blimey I love it, quality kit, treat yourselves. It has made the completion of ‘Got a ticket for my destination’ even more of a pleasure. Falco Colombarius Looking back at another red list bird of prey and my most popular print, the tiny but deadly Merlin. The medieval lady's hawk of choice, she speeds through the air catching skylarks and meadow pipits. Historically persecuted and poisoned either directly or via the food chain through pesticides, her future unfortunately is as bleak as her recent past. Continued habitat loss and the climate crisis will loom heavy over this little beauty for decades to come. I have never seen one in the flesh.....have you?
