✨ G is for Guitar ✨ My guitar is usually my one constant that I have with me. It is a go to instrument because of all the different ways it can be used. Some sessions though, I do not use the guitar (ex: if I’m doing a finger play song, using other tools & visuals, or its client preferred). With the vast ways of playing the guitar it can support individuals and a variety of goals. Whether it’s strumming, fingerpicking, playing soft melodies, or having a strong rhythmic beat, the guitar is a great tool for music therapists! Outside of playing a client preferred song, here are some goal areas the guitar can support: ✨ transitions ✨ sensory regulation ✨ relaxation ✨ creativity & exploration ✨ gait ✨ communication ✨ reducing stress & anxiety ✨ & so much more! But, like I mentioned above, sometimes I don’t take my guitar with me and that’s because it’s client preferred. I have some kiddos who do not like the guitar and that’s okay! We want to support kiddos in the best way for them - so I bring the instruments and tools that support them best. ✨ F is for Family ✨ Even though the referrals I receive are for the kiddos, having the families be a part of the session is so important! The family knows their kiddos best, so including them in conversation and the session can help you learn more about the child (especially my littles, under 1). In past sessions I have engaged with parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, and more! Within music therapy sessions, we can work towards the child’s goals while creating a space for family interaction/bonding. I also love having the opportunity within groups for families to build relationships and make connections with other parents / grandparents in the community! Lastly, having resources available to the family and explaining the different ways music is supporting their child is also important for the parents. Also providing them with confidence that they can sing and their kiddo would much rather prefer their voice over mine! Cet article, c’est le fruit de 23 ans de pratique et de recherche. Grâce aux nombreuses familles qui m’ont fait confiance, j’ai pu y ajouter de multiples vignettes cliniques afin de mettre en lien théorie et pratique. Merci à Jérémy Périchon @parents_et_orthophonie qui a coordonné ce numéro avec brio. Écrire un tel article c’est exigeant, c’est beaucoup de temps et ça développe l’esprit critique ! Je suis encore plus admirative aujourd’hui envers le travail des chercheurs et chercheuses. Keeman onderzoeksprijs! ✨ De oplettende lezer heeft haar al eerder bij ons voorbij zien komen; Sharron is verpleegkundig specialist bij de kindergeneeskunde van OLVG en zij deed onderzoek waarbij zij een medische hypnose script ontwikkelde voor een VR-bril. Dit om ervoor te zorgen dat kinderen minder pijn en angst ervaren tijdens een naaldgerelateerde procedure. Uit dit onderzoek bleek dat de VR-bril vergelijkbaar scoorde als hypnose door een zorgverlener en kinderen minder pijn en angst ondervonden. Het onderzoek werd geprezen door het vernieuwende en relevante karakter, met potentie voor andere vakgebieden. Met extra dank aan Nini Jonkman als adviseur Wetenschap OLVG verpleegkundig onderzoek voor de steun en begeleiding bij het onderzoek. Evidenced based practices are always learning and growing as new research comes out.
