Too often people are cutting out foods that they think are ‘bad’ for endo when this isn’t the case at all. Make sure you are getting your nutrition advice from qualified healthcare providers. 👩‍💻 Managing pain with surgery alone. Sure, surgery can be game-changing (for myself included!) but this isn’t the case for absolutely everyone! Endo pain can be managed through many other things such as pelvic physiotherapy, nutrition, acupuncture and medications. 😢 Waiting until the pain is unbearable to seek help! Even intermittent pain can affect our quality of life and you do not have to be experiencing severe pain to seek help! In fact, getting on top of pain management early is critical for better results. 🍎Not using diet as a management option for Endo. Diet has been proven to assist in pain reduction, assist with gut function and so much more to help improve endo symptoms. DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR, SEE & READ 🙉🙈 // It's a world of misinformation out there and despite your best efforts to not succumb to the temptation of clicking into that article that promises to cure endo with one food or diet, it can be REALLY tricky, especially because you're so willing to do whatever it takes to improve your endometriosis! 😣 🙅‍♀️ These are just some of the common traps and mistruths that I see when scrolling on my phone so it's time to put them to bed once and for all! 💖Endometriosis is NOT a rare condition (although its misrepresentation in the healthcare system would make you think so wouldn't it!). SHOULD YOU TAKE A MULTIVITAMIN FOR ENDOMETRIOSIS? 💊 // A very common (and super valid) question we get asked around here, and there is no one clear answer! When it comes to choosing a multivitamin, there are a few things to consider: 😊 If your overall ability to eat is compromised due to nausea, low appetite or high pain and an inability to make or prepare nourishing foods or meals it can be really tough to meet your micronutrient needs, it may be useful as a "top-up" 🤚It can be easy to reach upper limits and levels of toxicity if you're taking a multi-vitamin + other individual supplements or nutrients, I see this a lot with zinc in particular which when taken in high doses can contribute to gastric upset 🤚 Sadly, most multi-vitamins (especially the ones available in supermarkets) rarely contain sufficient levels of nutrients to correct any clinical or sub-clinical nutrient deficiencies 😊Taking a multi COULD help you increase your intake of key antioxidants like vitamins C and E which are commonly contained in your everyday multi. 👩‍⚕️BOTTOM LINE IS – It is best to see an experienced dietitian or healthcare provider to guide you around which supplements are best for you, taking into consideration your health history and lifestyle. 💊 Do not start or stop any supplements without previous individualised health care advice (P.S. Here’s a little challenge, try eating these wonderful herbs this week! 🫚Turmeric is a potent anti inflammatory. I blend turmeric with other herbs like garlic, ginger, coriander, and chili to make a delicious curry paste! If you only have access to the powder you can sprinkle it in stir fries, soups and even omelettes. 🫚Cinnamon is warming, and helps with circulation and digestion. Sluggish circulation, especially within the pelvis can make endo symptoms worse. You can add cinnamon to savory dishes like stews or sweet dishes like porridges and puddings. I like making my own chai with cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves. 🫚Ginger is a potent anti inflammatory and I love it because it is so versatile. I add it to stir fries and soups, congee, curry and tea! You can also add it to juices and smoothies. 🧄Garlic contains sulfur compounds which assists in liver detoxification. I add garlic to just about every savoury dish I make! 🌿Rosemary works to support phase 1 estrogen detoxification as it encourages estrogen metabolite balance. It helps to redirect potentially harmful 16OHE1 towards the more protective 2OHE1. I add rosemary to roasts, pasta, dressings and sauces, it is so fragrant and delicious! 🌿Nettle is wonderful in supporting histamine metabolism which is often an issue when it comes to endo. Nettle tea is the easiest way to consume nettle, but if you have access to the fresh plant, you can try to sautee it with garlic and butter, make a soup with it, or even a pesto! COMPARING OILS FOR ENDOMETRIOSIS 📊// Avoiding saturated fats where practical is important for the management of endometriosis. I named coconut oil as a source of saturated fat (which is very true by the way) and my DMs were blowing up about fats & oils! 🌟 This post is a good starting point comparing the fat profile of commonly used oils (saturated ideally trying to keep low, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated being favourable, although wanting to be mindful of excess omega-6s which is the typical polyunsaturated fat found in most cooking oils!), antioxidant content and the other point is heat stability ✨ My top pick is Extra Virgin Olive Oil for all three of these. 1. 🏅Fat profile is decent (it does vary seasonally and by olive variety) 2. 🌿 Antioxidant content is excellent in terms of volume and variety of bioactive polyphenols and vitamin E! 3. 🍳 It is the most heat stable and retains its nutrition and has fewer polar compounds forming (these we don't want!) when heated at domestic cooking temperatures 📲 Save this post!

DIET AND ADENOMYOSIS ✨ // I get this question a lot "I have adenomyosis as well as endo" or "I have adeno, what do I do with my diet?" The short answer is, we don't know enough about adenomyosis from a medical perspective let alone nutritionally 🤷‍♀️ 💛 We know it is a bit of step-cousin of endometriosis, with many people experiencing both endo and adeno, but there are many people out there without endometriosis and living with adenomyosis and both need guidance and support if they wish to trial some dietary changes 🔍 I searched high and low for some shred of information about this topic and honestly, it was pretty scant 👇 So here are some suggestions based on the inflammatory nature of adeno and the symptom profile and what we know from endometriosis 1. An abundance of fruit 🍉 vegetables 🥕 herbs 🌿 spices, healthy fats are going to be beneficial for inflammation, especially omega-3 fatty acids 2. Focusing on iron rich foods to help mitigate losses from heavy menstrual bleeding which many people with adenomyosis (as well as endo) experience. Focusing on legumes, beans, nuts & seeds 🥜 wholegrains 🌾 and combining with a source of vitamin C 🍋 to maximise absorption as well as oily fish 🍣 seafood 🐟 and red meat (in small amounts) for more biologically available iron sources 3. Avoid excess alcohol 🍷 caffeine ☕ saturated fats from processed meats 🌭 fatty cuts of meat 🥓 butter 🧈 coconut oil/products 🥥 and palm oil/products 🌴 as well as excess added sugars 🍭 is important to help with inflammation principles too!⠀ 💖 Save this one and spread the love with your fellow adenomyosis warriors!
