In the book he argues that a new, expanded cinema is required for a new consciousness. In great detail, Youngblood describes the various types of filmmaking utilising new technology, including film special effects, computer art, video art, multi-media environments and holography - by many described as a manifesto of its subject. Gene Youngblood (born 30 May 1942), is a theorist of media arts and politics, and a respected scholar in the history and theory of alternative cinemas. Ann Arbor, Part 1. Getting to show Poem of EL at @aafilmfest was an incredible honor—what a festival! To show my work in the company of so many filmmakers from all over the world making beautiful and honest and often dazzling experimental and independent work! Dayenu! To get to have 5 straight days and nights of such enriching conversations with that tribe of makers! Dayenu! To have my work honored in such company with a Leon Speakers Award for Sound Design (thank you, you genius @adamparrishking)! Dayenu! To have Elisa screened (twice, including the Awards screening) in the magnificent Michigan Theater which has been beautifully restored without losing any of its old school movie palace charm (and without losing the organ)! Dayenu! Yes, the organist is indeed playing 1970s Billy Joel! Dayenu! I return home nourished and grateful. We are in dark, grim times when so many structures are falling apart.
