I’ve already read and reviewed this book but you know what? It’s my book Instagram and I’m gonna do what I please. I decided to annotate this one before book club this weekend. I already knew I loved this book. I knew how it ended. I still felt punched in the gut, cried happy tears, sobbed sad tears, and fell head over heels in love with Hugh and Kate and Cam, and their complex love story. It is too gorgeous and I can’t say enough how much I adore this book. It’s very hard for me to connect with love stories sometimes because at times, I’m incredibly lonely and wish I could find someone. Life doesn’t end at 35 and just because it hasn’t happened yet, doesn’t mean it won’t. The hope keeps me coming back to stories like this with happy endings out of impossible odds. I loved it, so much. @emmagreyauthor is just.. I can’t say enough about how lovely she is, how she embodies grief, and how I feel like she plucked things from my brain to be in this book. It’s a gift to be able to read her writing. Also I obviously needed the Australian cover because it’s gorgeous as heck and I will not write in the book that I lovingly placed on my shelf after Emma wrote me a beautiful message. “I’ve learned that love outlives death. It holds steady through despair. It won’t fade, even as time lapses and distance increases and your world shifts.” Also I’d give Hugh and Kate two songs from Arkells. First- Laundry Pile. Our current read-aloud. I always have one book I read out loud with my kids for their language arts curriculum. I love being able to experience it with them and discuss it as well. I hope it becomes a series of favorite childhood memories. I know I cherish this time, and I adore how they often reference favorites we’ve read during other activities. We’re about halfway through, and all of us are enthralled and loving Echo Mountain.
