💐Books & Bouquets are back! 💐 I picked up my first bouquet from @floras_garden_ today. It was just what I needed to brighten my day and I’m continuously impressed with my friend’s talent for bringing these gorgeous bouquets to life. I paired this bouquet with one of my favorite reads of last year. Weyward by Emilia Hart weaves the stories of 3 women spanning 500 centuries. Connected by Wayward Cottage, a place that holds the power to give each woman a safe place to land. Each of their stories portrays the odds a woman in their time are forced to overcome in order to create a life of their own, rather than the ones chosen for them. It is a beautiful example of the resilience and strength of women and the hardships they face in every century. _________________________ #booksandbouquets #florasgarden #weywardbyemiliahart #booksaremylife #readwhatyoulove #fictionbooks #bookrecommendations #booksaremagic

⭐️ Book Review ⭐️ This was a sluggish read- not in a boring way, just more of a slow paced/easy fictional drama. The story focuses on character development as a main theme and as the story progresses, you learn how much of a façade each is putting on and the reasons for this. The rose tinted superficiality of the characters’ lives is slowly exposed via the flashbacks to the past. I felt the ‘big secret’ was pretty weak and wasn’t a big enough event to be used as a focal point for the book; if it was just a part of the storyline then it may have worked better. The group dynamics were possibly the best part of this and made it an interesting read from a social POV; I think this would make a good book club read for that reason, as there’s a lot to be said. I saw on Good reads that people were disappointed with the ending. Understatement really as it doesn’t have an ending- it just stops. It also stops with several storylines left open, which was quite annoying…not sure what that was about but maybe the author had dinner plans or something 🤷‍♀️ #bookreviewtime #bookthoughts #readandreview #bookreview #fictionlover #fictionfans #fictionbooks #bookworm #booklover #addictedtobooks #literaryreview

Gideon the Ninth - Tamsyn Muir ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 . How do you feel about necromancers in space, deadly trials, and murder mysteries? Because if all that sounds good, then Gideon the Ninth might be right for you. The first in its series, this book follows Gideon, the indentured servant (and newly-appointed, yet reluctant, cavalier prime) of the Ninth House. Each House is a political entity, similar to countries, that governs a planet in the solar system ruled by the God-Emperor, Necrolord Supreme. The adept (prince/princess equivalent) of each house numbered 2-9 are summoned, along with their cavalier prime (their sword-wielding bodyguard), to the First House for a series of trials to become Lyctors - the Emperor’s military leaders. Things go wrong almost immediately and the trials, meant not to harm anyone, devolve into murder and desperate attempts to survive. . Full review on Goodreads.

Margo is a 19 year old college student who becomes pregnant after an affair with her professor. She has to try to figure out what to do when she has the baby, and how to come up with enough money to survive. She ends up living with her absentee father, roommate, and child. She also turns to OnlyFans to generate income. I really enjoyed this book and it is one of the most interesting books I’ve ever read. It’s told in first and third person and switches consistently, but it never detracts from the story. In fact, it makes it so much better, because you start to see the parts Margo chooses to tell in first versus third person. Margo really was dealt a pretty crummy hand, but she always finds her way through. I loved her relationship with Suzie and Jinx. I loved watching her grow and come into her own, especially with confidence. And her relationship with JB, growing from small messages to much more. Not only that, but the book was genuinely funny. The Pokémon puns were hilarious. Jinx said some off the wall things that cracked me up in hindsight. There was a lot of heart packed into these pages. A couple of favorite quotes: “When you fall in love with a book, is it the character or the author you’re falling in love with?” “People are all so lonely. Even when they do horrible things, it often comes down to that, if only you take the time to understand them.” “Because that’s all art is, in the end. One person trying to get another person they have never met to fall in love with them.” Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. #books #reading #booklife #fictionbooks #contemporaryfiction #readingisfun #bookstagram #bookvibes #readingchallenge #margosgotmoneytroubles #rufithorpe #booklover #bookstagrammer #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview #netgalley

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 • “Only you can decide what breaks you, Cursebreaker. Only you.” • Another fun read from the ACOTAR series! Nothing Maas writes, I think, could ever live up to ACOMAF. I think the best part about this book was just reading about the crew hanging out - the banter, the schemes, the spats. Feyre’s character development was also great, as it was a lot more about her coming into her own as an individual rather than as a couple with Rhys. Plot-wise, this did have a pretty banger ending in terms of the scale of the conflict that was coming to a head - especially after first hearing about Hybern in ACOMAF. I will say it felt too cute how everything turned out…needed more grit, in my opinion. And don’t cite the bit about the dad to me. That came out of absolutely nowhere and felt like such an afterthought. Also, does anyone else just not buy into the “Cauldron” as this god-like power? I can’t get into it. It just sounds dumb to me. And the whole thing about Nesta and Elain going into it and coming out Fae…it’s always described in such dramatic but vague terms that I find myself rolling my eyes, wanting to just get to the next part of the book. In all, another fun installment in the ACOTAR series 🤓 • • • • #reading #readinggoals #bookish #bookishlove #book #books #booklover #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksofinstagram #reader #fantasybooks #englishteacher #pagesandpaige #fiction #fictionbooks #fantasy #acotar #acotarseries #acotarquotes #acourtofthornsandroses #sarahjmaas #sarahjmaasbooks #acourtofwingsandruin #rhysand #feyre #acowar #fantasybooks #fantasyworld #fantasyseries #romantasy

I might be one of the minorities, but even though this was a gripping story, it was not unique nor unpredictable. Part One was supposed to create momentum for what was coming next, but reading 168 pages where literally nothing relevant happened? Nope, I don’t think so. The Mostly True Story of Tanner and Louise got better as it went. For the first part of the book, both characters annoyed me and I almost DNF. But they’re both pretty sympathetic, and even though though they have different quirks due to being a Boomer and a Gen Z, they’re both presented as having good reasons for what they do, so eventually I warmed up to them. (I was worried there could be a bit of a“Wow [generation] is so dumb!” vibe but there really wasn’t.) The multi-generation road trip aspect was a lot of fun, and there were even a couple little twists at the end. Overall I think this one is a nice quick vacation type of book and I’m glad I picked it up. . . . . . #bookstagram #fictionbooks #themostlytruestoryoftannerandlouise #colleenoakley

R E V I E W - The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman ⭐️- 3/5 📚- Synopsis: In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet up once a week to investigate unsolved murders. But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer before it’s too late? 🖊 - Unpopular opinion incoming…I wanted to love this but it was a bit meh. I loved the premise and the characters were great with good moments of humour added in but the storyline and ending fell a bit flat for me. There were one to many characters to get to grip with which made it hard to get invested from the beginning. Is it gripping? No. Does it keep you on edge? Not really. It’s an endearing read though and I get why it’s called a cosy murder book. In two minds on whether to continue with the series 🤔 #readwithrav #booklover #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #bookstagrammer #bookreviews #ukbookreview #thethursdaymurderclub #mysterybooks #fictionbooks #crimefiction #cosymurdermystery

"ROSES ARE BLOOD RED" "Can someone's love be so fragile that it depends on what the other person does?" The way the author describes the love is so good that even when he was explaining the toxic relationship somehow it will make sense. Vanav's love and obsession towards Aarisha throughout the book will Make our thoughts oscillate and will make it hard to take stand on whether he is doing right things or not. The psyhotic behaviour, dark turns in stories will surely trouble and haunt for a while. This Suspense filled dark love story will haunt you with it's psyhotic and twisted turns and also make you to appreciate when it comes to perspective of love. My First dark psyhotic thriller and it has everything that can make it a wholesome read which will leave you with so many questions and thoughts ( troubling and haunting). An easy read. In short: Even true love has a dangerous side. 🖇️ tags #fictionnfusion #bookreview #indianbooks #romance #darkromannce #lovestory #books #booktalk #bookstagram #indianauthor #novoneelchakraborty #fictionbooks #writereview #bookquotes #bookaesthetic

Children of Virtue and Vengence by @tomiadeyemi ★★★ ☆ After battling the impossible, Zélie, Amari and Tzain have finally succeeded in bringing magic back to Orïsha. But the ritual was more powerful than they could’ve imagined, reigniting the powers of not only the maji but of nobles with magic ancestry, too. Now, the enemy is just as powerful as they are... • Opinion : There were actions, important events and plot twists. Tomi kept shedding light on racism and inequality, on how usurpers rule through injustice after stealing power from the people. We got to see more of Amari's life, seeing things from her perspective showed us that even the purest people with good intentions can do bad things if pushed too far. I also got to learn more about magic and its creation and I loved it as many other things about this book but I won't lie, It took me time to finish it and sometimes I just wanted to stop reading it. The main character was getting on my nerves during the whole book, and the tangled love stories, some scenes were too long or boring, I felt less excited while reading compared to the first one which was better. BUT the set-up is pretty good for the third book, so much potential, I really can't wait to read it. ⁉️ Have you read it ? • • • • • • #book #books #read #reading #bookreview #bookstagram #bookworm #bookaddict #bookaddiction #library #instabooks #livre #fantasy #fantasybooks #yafantasy #romance #thrillerbooks #fiction #fictionbooks #poetry #writing #booklovers #bookstagrammer #booktok #tomiadeyemi #childrenofbloodandbone #childrenofvirtueandvengeance

The Book Of Secrets by @annamazzolawriter Published by @orionbooks (Ad:gifted) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Many would say that this is the role of God, not of some uneducated woman from Palermo, and that by taking His role she acts as the devil. But that is a God written by men for men and she has little time for it” Have I found a new to me historical fiction novelist to love- I think so! The Book Of Secrets blew me away with its fabulous engaging plot. I haven’t read anything quite like it before, in fact this is the first I knew of the poisonings in Rome. Fascinating stuff. (See comments section for synopsis) The storyline keeps the reader engaged throughout. I didn’t realise quite how invested I was in the outcome until I got to the end and let out a breath. I really enjoyed the multiple point of view narrative as we follow prosecutor Stefano, poisoner Girolama, and abused wife Anna. The multiple povs added different layers to the story and helped with plot pacing. The Book Of Secrets highlights the inequalities and injustices that women have faced throughout history, but particularly in the wake of the 1600’s witch trials. Beautifully written and totally captivating. Highly recommend! Thank you to the publisher for sending me a gorgeous finished copy. 𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 Stars My full review (it didn't all fit on IG) is on Amazon, Story graph, and Goodreads! No Spoilers! There's so much good to say about this book, I'm not sure where to start. This may be a bit of a ramble. I have only read limited amounts of sci-fi in the past, so I wasn't sure what to expect of this book. I was really impressed with the intro to the book. (And I don't impress easily.) It instantly grabs you, and makes you want to read more. The sentence structures are easy to read, yet still tell an interesting story. I went into this book only knowing it was supposed to be similar to Stargate and Star Trek. And I found that to be very true! The chapters very much read like episodes of Star Trek and Stargate. Every chapter has something new happening. There are no lags in the story, which is impressive for a 600 page book. I never felt like anything was dragged out too long, nor did I ever get bored. I could definitely see this series as a tv show. Some elements of the book also remind me of Fifth Element. The descriptions of some of the villains had me picturing ones from Fifth Element. This book feels quirky while still being a solid read, much like Fifth Element makes you feel as you watch it. The crew itself had a lot of quirks and original characters who all seem to mesh well despite their differences. I really like Elise, but I believe my favorite is Mavner. He's such a stiff character who wants so badly to not care. There are a lot of great themes in this book like friendship, loyalty, growth, adapting to the situation, sadness, etc. Rachel Cherie has managed to create a full spectrum of emotions in characters that normally would be very limited in their emotional range. Thank you so much @rachelcherieauthor for gifting me a copy of this AWESOME book! #fiction #fictionbookstagram #fictionbooks #sciencefiction #sciencefictionbooks #scifi #bookdragon #bookdragons #book #booksofinstagram #bookish #booklover #books #bookstagrammer #bookstack #booksbooksbooks #bookrecommendations #bookreview #bookrecommendation #bookreader #readingtime #read #readersofinstagram #reading #bookreviewersofinstagram #bookreview

Secrets of a Serial Killer by Rosie Walker ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 19th Apr to 23rd Apr The book follows several different POV’s through the abduction of Zoe and her experience, the abductor and his past and present feelings, Zoe’s mum Helen and her need to find out what had happened and to find Zoe and Thomas, a nervous 10 year old boy who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I enjoyed the multiple POV’s as I find this to be really helpful when reading a thriller as it can show how the characters are feeling and why, as well as give more information for how certain reactions have developed and how the characters can interact with each other if their feelings are not obvious from another point of view. I also thought the pacing of this book was really good as the chapters had me hooked and I found myself being unable to stop reading as I just had to know what was happening next. I found the ending of this book quite abrupt which didn’t feel like it matched the pacing of the book, which I enjoyed up until the ending. I found that it didn’t feel as satisfying as I was hoping as I read this book quite quickly but felt disappointed by the ending. I also found that I didn’t like the website entries as I found it didn’t seem to go with the rest of the novel and felt unnecessary. I think overall there was too much going on and too many details to enable the reader to keep track and understand what was going on and why. A good fast paced and intense read, just let itself down a little by the end. #bookstagram #bookstagramuk #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #booktok #bookrecommendations #girlswhoread #girlreader #reader #readingismyhappyplace #fictionbooks #crime #thriller #secretsofaserialkiller #rosiewalker

Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. First published as a book in 1838. This edition 2003 by GE Fabbri Ltd in the style of the 1874 edition. Illustrations by George Cruikshank. In faux leather I bought this book in a second hand book store. I haven’t finished this story yet as I am finding it quite hard going. It’s quite depressing and I am not sure if it’s my state of mind or whether Dickens isn’t for me. I know the story, so all I can say is thank goodness for Mr Brownlow. The moral so far for me is stick by the people that love you and want the best for you. Oliver certainly perseveres in the face of adversity and in the end he is rewarded by being adopted by Mr Brownlow. #bookstagram #books #booklover #olivertwist #charlesdickens #book #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #bookworm #bookworms #readingtime #booknerd #read #bookaddicted #bookaddict #bookish #classics #classicsdaily #bookaholics #literature #noval #bookshelf #secondhandbooks #fictionbooks #classicliterature #classiclit #bookstagramuk🇬🇧 #whichbooknext

Fiction is the best teacher. That's why people ban or burn books. ♥️📚Sunday Shelfie📚♥️ Happy Sunday my beautiful Bookstagram friends 🥰 I love my reading room and I adore my bookcase. I’m still buying things to add to it as I see them, these things can’t be rushed but I’m already happy in my space! Today we have had a pretty busy Sunday. Our 2nd eldest is visiting from Australia arriving on Weds (via Sri Lanka, Philippines and Thailand) so getting the spare room spruced and cleaned up whilst at the same time decorating the kitchen and living area! It’s full on!! Can’t wait to see him! ♥️ Found time to pop into our local micro brewery for a quick drink now back home to make some dinner and hopefully a low key evening reading. I fear I will be asleep by 9 after a sleepless night!! How’s your Sunday going? ♥️ #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookstagram #book #booklover #bookworm #reading #read #bookrecommendations #bookreviewsbyserene #bookstagramuk #bookaddict #library #goodbooks #fictionbooks #readersofinstagram #bookish #ukreader #fictionreader #audiobook #paperback #kindlereader #kindleaddict #goodreads #storygraph #sundayshelfie #sundaybooks #readingroom

Funny Story | Emily Henry Daphne and Miles are forced to be roommates after their significant others break up with them and get engaged to each other (said significant others are childhood best friends). Funny Story is a classic Emily Henry book, so if you love her other ones I’m sure you’ll love this too! My only criticism is that it started off slow but the romantic development somehow felt a bit rushed at the same time. That being said, the witty banter and introspection got me in the end and I still really enjoyed it. Bonus points for being set in Northern Michigan with some of my favorite places! Overall Emily Henry Ranking: 1. Happy Place 2. Beach Read 3. Book Lover 4. Funny Story 5. People We Meet on Vacation Have you read any of these? I’ve found a genre that I am LOVING! Fictional stories written like true crime. I read Penance by Eliza Clark and I loved it. What Happened to Nina has me on the edge of my seat! Book 3/16 of the women's prize for fiction longlist! ⭐⭐⭐⭐ In the Maiden we follow the lead up to the execution of Christian Nimmow. A real figure from history, but we get a reimagining of her story, as the specific details are lost to history. We follow the fictional accounts from two women, Christian and Violett following the events what lead to Christian being accused of murdering her uncle, and lover (not related by blood!) 🤪 We really take a look at the injustices towards women in the 1700s, and the manipulation of men. We see this kind of love/jealousy triangle unfold which is entertaining, and also integral to the story being conveyed. I felt such a compulsion to pick this back up and found some parts quite funny too! It was compelling and I loved the dual perspectives as we really get a look into two different women, from different sections of society, and get an insight into their childhoods, their motivations and inner thoughts! Overall, a really solid historical fiction! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
