It’s not quite May, but I feel confident naming The Sicilian Inheritance my top book club pick for your summer books clubs. Why? There’s TRULY something for everyone here: historical fiction (with dual timelines), suspense, crime, mystery, romance, strong women, drama, family, and, of course, an Italian setting. I recommend it especially for fans of Chanel Cleeton. I had “Next Year in Havana” feels the whole time! It’s also a perfect beach read. And, you can easily pair it with delicious Italian food and beverages, which is a no-brainer. The Sicilian Inheritance is based on a true crime story in the author’s own family history, and, for those who like to indulge in a full multimedia experience, she released a corresponding podcast about it. The death of Sara’s beloved Aunt Rosie brings her to Sicily, where she comes to investigate the possible murder of her feisty great-grandmother there, all the while her husband worked in America. On a personal note, I truly loved all the Philadelphia (where I live) and Scranton (where I grew up) references, so I’ll also be recommending this one to all my IRL friends and family too.

She is now trying to find a way out of this group home life and wants more for herself. She is in a secret relationship, and now with a child! Do you think they will even let her keep her baby under current circumstances Did she kill that baby all those years ago? How will she get out of this group home? This book brought all the Jewish, soap opera vibes, and I’m here for it. Pippa needs to write her sophomore novel, but she’s had writers block for what feels like forever. With a huge deadline ahead, she’s eager for any and all inspiration. When her son gives her an idea, she jumps on board, despite its ridiculousness. This book was so Jewish, and I loved it! Zibby really weaves together a wonderfully Jewish family. Plus, I gotta say, this book was funnier than I anticipated. The topics in the story could be heavy, but they were handled with a lightness that made me fly through the book. If you haven’t picked up Blank yet, definitely add it to your beach tbr. What a thought-provoking read our April book club pick was! Thoroughly enjoyed our discussion this past weekend. In terms of giving it a proper review… I think I’ll skip it for this one. I Have Never Know Men is not a book I feel a review would be helpful of - in fact, the less you know going in, the better! All I’ll say is that the book is more on the philosophical side - it’s about giving you food for thought, rather than clear-cut answers… and I feel that’s all you need to know, really. Although it’s not an absolute favorite for me perse, I did enjoy this book overall and admire the originality and range of questions it managed to bring up in just under 200 pages 👏 (would certainly recommend it for book clubs) Also, something about the book reminded me a bit of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go and can definitely see how of you like the one, you’ll probably enjoy the other too. 📚 18/60 for 2024. Normally I find it quite difficult to binge or whizz through an autobiography but Manifesto was a lovely read. I picked this up after reading (and thoroughly enjoying) " Girl, Woman, Other," and now I have some of Bernardine Evaristos other books on my list too. I loved reading how she didn't find "success" until her 40's and 50's when she changed her career from writing plays to writing books. Sooo ich hatte ja erwähnt dass diesen Monat 3 Bücher auf dem Plan standen, die ich für verschiedene Buchclubs lesen wollte. Und das letzte was sich eher spontan dazu gesellt hatte, war "Love Redesigned" von @laurenasherauthor . Und was hat das für einen Spaß gemacht, dieses Buch im #Cofly Bookclub mit zu lesen. 🥰 Rivals to lovers seit Kindheitstagen, aber dennoch merkt man dass zwischen Dahlia und Julien was ist. Obwohl sie sich trietzen und anstacheln, fördern sie auch das beste des jeweils anderen. Wie die Hintergründe beschrieben werden, ohne direkt in die Vergangenheit zu wechseln und wie auch z.b. Fokus auf mentale Gesundheit eingeflochten werden. Super gemacht. Generell einfach die Erzählweise, die dich nicht mehr los lässt und die 500+ Seiten vergehen wie im Flug. Es wird nie langweilig oder zieht sich. Auch bei den Nebenfiguren bietet sich viel Potenzial an für weitere Geschichten und zum Glück ist Band 2 ja schon angekündigt. Ich bin begeistert. Jetzt werde ich wohl erstmal weiter die Dreamland Billionaires Reihe lesen, denn da hab ich bisher auch nur Band 1 gelesen 😁. Funny Story by Emily Henry ♾️⭐️ This was an absolute PERFECTION! This book was my undoing - it stripped me, exposed me and left me RAW!! I couldn’t stop crying at how much of myself I saw in Daphne - not trying to connect with people & make friends because they just end up leaving, feeling so unloveable & like everything is your fault - was too heavy at times! 🥺😭 Like Daphne, l’ve been burned so many times by people and am left exhausted and tired and unimpressed that I don’t even put myself out there anymore. I live my life in books and am perfectly content. Daphne was so pure and I wanted to give her a big hug because reading about yourself from the outside looking in gives you much needed perspective. It made me realize that it’s not us it’s them and truly understand that!! I’m not broken & I am lovable 🥺😭🩵 I’m so happy Daphne was able to build and find her community and finally feel like she belongs somewhere. 🥹🤍if you’ve ever felt like Daphne - please know that there’s nothing wrong with you & you will find your people someday. Between trying to send out a chapter draft of my dissertation, join a thesis presentation competition (which I won at the department/school level!), and prepare for two upcoming conferences, I got a little behind on my reading. ✨Book Review✨ 📚For the Wolf ✍🏼Hannah Whitten ⭐️2 out of 5 I wanted to love this book. The synopsis was so promising, and I went in with high hopes. Sadly though, that was the best thing about For the Wolf. It was a smidge of Little Red Riding Hood, a lot of Beauty and the Beast, and the tiniest bit of Snow White with the glass coffin bit. This book was over 400 pages, and I feel like nothing happened. The author didn’t seem to have an exact direction she was headed. I couldn’t get a clear picture of what should be happening in my head. Couldn’t see the Wilderwood, the Keep, couldn’t imagine the Shrine. The writing just didn’t evoke strong imagery. The duel POVs didn’t feel like they went together at times. I feel like the entire story was very 2 dimensional. The characters lacked depth. The world felt haphazardly put together. The entirety of the relationship between Red and the Wolf, Eammon, was him keeping a secret from her for “her own good” and her doing what she thought was best anyway, which ended in some type of problem. And that happened over and over again. It was frustrating when they could have avoided all of that after Eammon realized Red was different. It didn’t add anything to the story to have them continually trying to protect each other by denying themselves because they thought it was best. It just became exhausting. All in all, it just fell incredibly flat. It is part of a duology and, even though it ended in a cliff hanger, I have absolutely no desire or intentions to read the next one. Last read + April photo dump 📘📷 • • • I've been in a reading slump for pretty much this whole year but I finally finished a book 😂 Tokyo Ever After was a bookclub pick and I had a good time with this one, it was sweet and fun and felt like such a perfect read for spring! 🌸 What all have you guys been up to, reading or otherwise? 👀
Book club! Today we discussed Only If You’re Lucky by @stacyvwillingham . This story takes place between college kids so we were college kids this evening! Cheetos, pizza, Mac & cheese, wine coolers, and Rosé were all mentioned in the book. I included other college foods such as chicken nuggets, chips & dip, cokes, mini corn dogs, ramen, and pizza rolls. I made vanilla cupcakes because the main character describes herself as very vanilla because she is malleable and can change or fit in where she needs to. And of course we needed red solo cups!
