Even though reaching the summit was an option, my heart couldn't allow me to summit a mountain that I've prayed about for the past 8 years. Despite being just 50 meters away, I made the decision not to proceed to the top. Instead, I turned around, honoring the significance of this mountain in my prayers. ❤️ Starting our summit bid with my 23-year-old partner on April 17th under the moonlight, we encountered ideal weather conditions. However, upon reaching 6770 meters at 6:20 AM:18th April, my consciousness urged me to stop and go back, same day we came down till Amadablam base camp lodge. Despite societal notions of success tied to summiting, my heart and mind told me otherwise. It's not about the physical peak, but rather about the inner mountains we climb. I find greater admiration for those who take the time to step back, heal, and conquer their internal challenges. Even een korte terugblik op mijn hikes die ik in Nepal gemaakt heb. De eerste vanuit Pokhara, de Mardi Himal trek. Nar een hoogte van iets meer dan 4000 meter. Het basecamp was niet bereikbaar door sneeuwval. Voortdurend uitzicht op Annapurna South en de prachtige Machapuchare. Mijn tweede hike ging vanuit Kathmandu. Eerst een dag hobbelen met de bus naar het startpunt en vandaar lopen naar Gosaikunda Lake. Met als hoogste punt 4400 meter. Uitzichten op de toppen in de Langtang regio. Beide treks heb ik gemaakt in de Nepalese winter. Prachtig weer. Blauwe luchten, sneeuwval, en geweldig mooie uitzichten. De laatste dagen van mijn 6 maanden reis heb ik ook een beetje na zitten denken over wat ik verder ga doen. Plannen maken voor nieuwe reizen. Ergens de komende maanden ga ik wat hikes maken in Nederland en hopelijk in Duitsland en Luxemburg. Afhankelijk van het weer de komende maanden wil ik in Nederland de heuvelrug hike lopen. En dan hopelijk voor de juli naar Duitsland gaan en kijken hoever ik kan komen met het lopen van de Eifelsteig. Wanneer ik die helemaal zou lopen ben ik een week of twee onderweg. In de zomer of in september dan misschien de Lee trail in Luxemburg. In het najaar staat IJsland op het programma. En voor de winter heb ik nog geen fixed plan. Hopelijk kan ik dan ergens begin maart naar Spanje afreizen om de Camino Mozarabe te lopen. Daarna ergens midden volgend jaar afreizen naar Pakistan. Van Pakistan naar een van de Centraal Aziatische landen reizen. En dan rondkijken in Kirgizië (daar was ik al een keer), rondkijken in Tajikistan, naar Oezbekistan, heel misschien naar Turkmenistan en eindigen in Iran om mijn vrienden daar te bezoeken. Wat het allemaal wordt? Ik ga het allemaal beleven.
