As this year comes to a close, I want to acknowledge the feelings I’ve been feeling over the last few months… Over the last 5 years, I’ve gone through countless life changes (e.g., starting a family, achieving permanency within my career, losing loved ones, marriage etc.) & while majority of them have been positive, they all attributed to burnout which eventually developed into poor mental health. My drive was fuelled by trying to live up to society’s expectations of success & the fear of never being good enough, therefore, I never took the time to process these life changes (both good & bad) & I never really felt a sense of pride in my accomplishments. In October, my life came to a standstill when my body decided that I could no longer pour from an empty cup. I had no choice but to hit pause on my career to restore my mental & physical health. I can’t quite put into words the immense amount of guilt I felt for weeks on end. I felt I had let my students & Admin team down; I felt I had let my husband & our son down; I was afraid of what my family, friends & even Teachergram would think of me when they find out that I DON’T have it all figured out yet. Despite fulfilling many of society’s expectations of success, I questioned WHY I still felt inadequate? Fast forward to today, I wanted to share that I’m still figuring it all out (lol) but if there’s one thing this experience has taught me it’s that success is peace of mind; success is prioritizing your own needs, unapologetically; success looks different for everybody & that’s okay! If you’ve stayed with me until the end, I want to thank my family, friends & even Teachergram for your unwavering support. MY PACKING TIPS 💼✈️✨ Last week, I shared in stories how I packed for a week-long trip for my entire family of 3 into 3 bags: a carry-on suitcase, this duffel bag & my diaper bag. I've always been a pretty light packer but I do have a few hacks I wanted to share for the many of you who asked! 1. Packing cubes. 🙌🏼 these might be one of my favorite inventions ever. They make it so easy to organize everything (especially when packing for a baby!) & I swear you can fit so much more into your suitcase when using these. It helps condense items into a smaller, confined space that is easily squished down. 2. Pack outfits that allow for using pieces over multiple days. Example: pack 1 pair of jeans that you can use for 3 outfits. Or a dress you can style 2 ways. I know it's tempting to want to pack all different outfits for your trip but it's best to be practical if you need to save space! 3. Only pack "extra" for baby. Too many times, I've thought "hmm I'm gonna throw in an extra pair of leggings or a sweater 'just in case.'" And I never end up using them. 😂 packing a few extra light layers might be a good idea if you're traveling somewhere you wouldn't have access to a washing machine or a place to get emergency backup clothes but for the most part, it's unnecessary to pack more than you need! 4. Invest in quality luggage that has plenty of storage space. I love love love all of my @fawndesign bags. This duffel bag pictured here fits SO much & has so many pockets inside that make it easier to stay organized. 💛 I also kept my @fawndesign fanny pack on throughout the entire duration of our airport experience and plane ride. This made it easy to have quick access to items I needed like my ID, a pacifier for Hazel & wipes. Bonus: if you have time, try and plan out your outfits ahead of time & take pictures of them. This way you can refer back to them when you get to your destination AND you won't end up packing more than you need. 👏🏼 // I hope you found this helpful!
