Brandy joins the committee in honor of her late sister, Casey, who passed away in 2010. "Casey developed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and after a summer of eight chemo treatments, was cleared from cancer. However, later that fall, Casey developed a cold that turned into pneumonia. She passed away October 4, 2010 and was the most beautiful person I ever met." I did a thing! This past week I traveled to Seattle and donated blood stem cells to a patient in Europe suffering from a type of blood cancer - a transplant like this is typically their last resort and could save their life! I did the peripheral stem cell donation, so no anesthesia or surgery was needed, they just took blood out of one arm, filtered out the stem cells and returned the rest through the other arm - it took about three hours for me. I’m sure almost everyone can do this and YOU could be the match and life-saving donor for somebody out there, and all you need to do to enter the registry is to swab your cheek.
