Our time in Colorado Bend State Park 🤿🐍Gorman Falls & Spicewood Springs🥾🐛 Spicewood springs was giving serious Shrek vibes. We came across a small swimming area between the streams. It was a cloudy day after about 4 inches of rain so the water was ❄️COLD🥶 I want to give a shoutout to these fuzzy black caterpillars that were EVERYWHERE we looked on both hikes. We ended our visit to the park by hiking down to Gorman Falls. Texas has so many beautiful places I never knew existed. This is the Gorman Falls hike at Colorado Bend State Park. I had to get my bluebonnets fix too! The hike is relatively short - about 3 miles in and out for the Gorman Falls. It’s very steep when you get to the falls so take heed. It’s worth the trip, though, because wow! We had a good day hiking at Colorado Bend State Park, today. I always want to say a lot about hikes, hoping to encourage people to get out there. But I know only like five people will read this. So here goes… The weather was supposed to be cloudy, but it was actually sunny and perfect. It’s technically still early in the spring, so no fields of wildflowers, but oh my gosh the mountain laurels are killing it! Parts of the trails were filled with butterflies, too. If you haven’t been to this park, it’s great for a variety of cacti which will be blooming in the coming weeks. Our 7-mile hike took us to Gorman Falls via Cedar Chopper Loop, the Tinaja Trail, and the Old Gorman Road. There were rocky trails, elevation, dry creek beds, canyons, and beautiful views. I did an amazing hike about 4 1/2 hours from me in San Saba Texas! If you are looking for a gorgeous hike in Texas, this is a beautiful place in @coloradobendstatepark! I did a couple of trails that day, but Gorman Falls was my favorite! That said, I felt like I was skiing moguls much of the time. The hike is no joke as it’s super rocky! If you have bad knees, get those legs built up first before attempting this hike. I can help you with that through personal training. I also had a couple of moments where it was hard to tell where the trail was, so really pay attention! Multiple trails can be easy to get lost on, or maybe it’s just me! 🙂 Lastly, I saw many animals and the first ones I saw from afar looked like mountain lions, but I thought to myself that just couldn’t be and moved on. Later I saw a sign saying mountain lions live in the park and then explaining what to do if they approach you! 😱 Soooo, that is also a thing! I almost didn’t continue down that trail, but I asked God for protection and grabbed a big walking stick and enjoyed my hike! 🦁 I will post videos later, but here are some pics. So gorgeous! It’s like a little piece of heaven in the middle of nowhere. Happy #WaterfallWednesday from Gorman Falls at Colorado Bend State Park a half hour day trip southeast of San Saba, Texas (about 2 hours nw of Austin). 💦 The breathtaking beauty of Gorman Falls, one of the Lone Star State's most stunning natural wonders, is home to a unique ecological system and houses a variety of plants 🌱 and ferns 🌿 that have existed here for thousands of years! 🥾 The approximate 3-mile hike to the 70’ waterfalls starts easy but rocky and becomes progressively moderate to difficult over rough terrain that climaxes with a steep climb down to the falls - you’ll be assisted by a cable wire rail, but the descent can be slippery! 🥾 Be sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes, sunscreen, hats, and bring PLENTY of drinking water 💦 (1-liter per person per hour and even more water if you are bringing children or pets) and don’t forget snacks!
