How stunning is autumn 🍂 😍

On the weekend it was time for this gigantic celtuce to be removed. I've collected more than enough seeds and just as many have self seeded underneath it. It's now been retired to the chicken coop for some enrichment for them until it eventually gets broken down into the soil for the worms. . . . . . #celtuce #abcmygarden #veggiegarden #gardening #organicgardening #urbangardening #permaculture #thehappygardeninglife #gardeningisfun #gardeningaustralia #homegardening #backyardgardening #epicgardening #growfoodnotlawns #thehappygardeninglife #sustainablegarden #suburbangardening #foodforest #veggiepatch #growyougoodthing #herbalwitch #harvest #gardenharvest #subtropicalgardening #growitlocal

Adrian and Pauline Ball, of Tirau, in the Waikato region, have embarked on sustainable practices to improve their property and help with future endeavours. “In 2003, we were a pretty intensive dairy farm,” he said. “We won a national farm business award for dairy and were very production-focused.” “We've slowly adapted to putting more of a sustainability lens on what we're doing, measuring things a little bit differently. Having a full balanced circle of what's important to us, measuring things that aren't always financial. “I think we're no different to a lot of farmers. We want to see the land improve; we want to see it in a better state than when we inherited it." Decisions on the Carterton, NZ farming enterprise of Michael and Karen Williams (pictured with Bear) are made with sustainability principles of people, planet, and profit in mind. A passion for the environment, and their own land, influences short and long-term choices on their “Ahiaruhe Farm” property at Carterton in the Wairarapa region of New Zealand’s North Island. "We’re looking at how can we continue to produce good food, with a diminishing environmental impact,” Karen said. “For me, sustainability is about balance, and that's social, economic, and environmental. You need to get all three of those working together and that's certainly our driver.” Read more about the Williams' Sustainability goals at the link in our bio. #Growyougoodthing #ClimatePositiveLeaders #sustainability

General Manager for Sustainability and Strategic Projects, Michael Wentworth, of Yealands Wines, said sustainability was the major goal from inception. “We've got a lot of sustainability initiatives that cover our entire supply chain,” he said. “We talk about from grass to glass so from the vineyard right through to the time that the consumer is drinking their wine.” “Our ambition is to reduce our emissions by 50 per cent by 2030 and be carbon positive by 2050. Our plan is to minimize our diesel burn, reduce our inputs and use renewable energy.” Read more about Yealands' Wines Sustainability plans at the link in our Bio. #Sustainability #ClimatePostiveLeaders #GrowYouGoodThing

Improving soil health has been the major focus for Andrew West, at Wakanui, in Mid Canterbury. A chance meeting between Andrew’s father and a biological farming organic expert on a plane pricked their interest and the family started to explore alternative farming practices. “We started to learn a lot about the biological world and decided that actually there's a lot of common sense,” Andrew said. “The soil we knew was important, but it wasn't our sole focus - it was more about what we were growing above it.” “That probably really flipped the switch. The soil is actually the most important thing, and we need to get that humming, and then everything else will follow." My garden is now a jungle, swipe to see how it looked in December 2020. Creating your dream garden takes time, I'm still working on my dream garden who knows if it will ever be finished finished but I have loved the journey to this point! We have done everything ourselves using as much upcycled and recycled materials as possible, even the rocks for the firepit I scored for free (does anyone remember mount rockmore on my driveway for 3 or so months 😅). This is my first time ever living in a home I've owned and I've learnt so much about gardening in a permanent space after years of renting and dismantling gardens to move. I can't wait to see how it looks in another 3/4 years time! . . . . #beforeandafter #nowandthen #growingwithtime #garden

Ben Heathwood was asked to take part in our inaugural program year to provide insight and feedback and a year he had! Repost credit @qldtrustfornature __________ @lachlanhughesfoundation: Ben’s Regenerative Journey “There most certainly is a future in agriculture: it’s us!” - Ben Heathwood 🤠The Lachlan Hughes Foundation celebrated and reflected on the participants’ journeys over the last 12 months in the LHF program. QTFN’s Land and Assets Manager Ben Heathwood was the first participant to present. Ben spoke about his journey to this point and his development throughout the program. 🐮Ben’s regenerative agriculture interest had been rekindled in his role at QTFN, but this connection between a healthy herd and good landscape management has been fostered since his childhood on the family farm. Ben’s project site is QTFN’s Aroona Station; he’s been working towards planning Aroona’s long-term future alongside Senior Ecologist Georgina Braun with input from the rest of the QTFN team. This is just the beginning for Aroona of working towards balancing beef and biodiversity. 📈Ben’s time as a Lachlan Hughes Foundation participant has launched his regenerative agriculture and self-discovery journey. It’s been amazing to see Ben’s development as a participant and to continue our partnership with the Lachlan Hughes Foundation. 💻You can see more about this event in the blog post on the QTFN website (qtfn.org.au) 📸 Tiffany Heathwood #Regenerativeagriculture #regenag #agriculture #agricultureaustralia #support #community #grass #growyougoodthing #pasturehealth #network #learning #soilhealth #farmer #lachlanhughesfoundation

Have you caught episode 21 of the @agtechfinder podcast? In this episode they speak about pasture management and the technology helping producers maximise profit and protect their environment with our very own Philip Hughes, @cibolabs co-founder Phil Tickle and South Australian sheep and cattle farmer Penny Schulz. This episode talks to Philip about developing Banchory grazing with Adele, Lachlan and Alister, and their desire to produce premium beef and supply it directly to the Australian consumer which then led to the formation of Rangeland Quality Meats (RQM) in 2010 with the aim of providing a true ‘paddock to plate’ consumer experience. To assist with this, they developed a hybrid grain feeding and finishing operation, processing and finishing 5,000 to 7,000 head a year for the domestic market. The episode also talks about honouring Lachlan’s commitment to regenerative farming practices, after he tragically died in late 2018 in an on-farm accident, by setting up the Lachlan Hughes Foundation to support regenerative agricultural, through scholarships, projects & mentoring programs. The Hughes family were one of the first to adopt Cibo Labs technology and use its tools to help protect their ground cover, inform cattle movement and make sure their country remains “rain ready”. Garlic day two 🙌 Second photo is the garlic I didn't presoak (round two) that I planted the same day which is starting to come up, a day or two difference between presoaking and not presoaking so like I said in my reel the other day presoaking is totally optional. If you don't have time, capacity or know you will forget about it don't stress over presoaking your garlic just get it in the ground before mid April! Change of seasons in the food forest Summer is the messy season when it's too hot and humid to grow much or spend time in the garden so I just let it turn into a jungle now we are heading into autumn and winter where I can plant out rows of crops and the garden generally looks a bit neater. Its Wednesday my dudes and we are planting out our garlic we soaked in seasol for 2 days. Starting off small with 3 bulbs so I don't overload and overwhelm myself, I have a big garlic planting job ahead of me but still have several weeks of planting time up my sleeve. I'm taking a new, yet old Kelly approach with my gardening, a slower paced approach, gardening for my own pleasure and enjoyment instead of trying to keep up with instagram trends. Finding my soul in gardening again with my dirty hands deep in the soil connecting with nature's energy, that healing energy. Knowing my capacity and not pushing myself to finish large projects, not having that feeling of having to be doing something new and exciting constantly to share on instagram, not feeling like I have to share every single moment on instagram just spending time disconnected from social media and the world and reconnecting with the earth, my surroundings, my safe space, my inner happiness 💕 . . . . . . #abcmygarden #veggiegarden #gardening #organicgardening #urbangardening #permaculture #thehappygardeninglife #gardeningisfun #gardeningaustralia #homegardening #backyardgardening #epicgardening #growfoodnotlawns #thehappygardeninglife #sustainablegarden #suburbangardening #foodforest #veggiepatch #growyougoodthing #herbalwitch #harvest #gardenharvest #subtropicalgardening #growitlocal #garlic #garlicseason #garlicplanting

🌾 WHAT ARE OUR SCHOLARS UP TO 🌾 Neil & Jan-Adele have been busy in the paddock this month as they continue making improvements to their land! They have put up a hotwire fence around their entropic garden to prevent cattle damage to the plants (after learning that lesson the hard way!) and have also mobbed grazed the project site they have been working on, with some great success in how well the erosion areas held up! The pair have also taken the time for some further learning opportunities by attending one of Dick Richardsons @grazing_naturally workshops, and Neil was even lucky enough to head along to the inspiring @wilmotcattleco field day. Repost credit @elsomgrazing _________ So, what does 2024 have in store? I am really excited to say that I have been selected to take part in the @lachlanhughesfoundation program for 2024. It is a program of personal development, regenerative agriculture, mentoring, connection, leadership, opportunity and so much more. If you are looking for a place to expand your thinking, challenge yourself and grow as a person, get involved. There is also a way you can get involved as a supporter or through donations. Head over to their website for more info lachlanhughesfoundation.org.au I am so grateful for the opportunity to take part in such an incredible organisation and family and I am so excited about the journey with an amazing group of people. Anyone who knows the Hughes family knows how welcoming and generous they are. I am also looking to create closer connections with farmers and friends, so if you would like to help me along this journey of self, farming, connection and growth, please feel free to get in touch. We are also continuing to help people shift to a more regenerative and natural approach to land, stock and farm management. If you need a hand or would like an outside perspective get in touch. We can look at whole of farm land management plans as well as set you up in a positive way on your regenerative journey. From all of my conversations, podcasts, field days, programs and learnings, it has been overwhelmingly clear, that collaboration and connection is needed and we must continue to work together. #Regenerativeagriculture #regenag #agriculture #agricultureaustralia #support #community #grass #growyougoodthing #pasturehealth #network #learning #soilhealth #farmer #lachlanhughesfoundation

The red clover is hanging in well despite limited rain in the last few months. It does not like having wet feet and there is a distinct line where the water sits that it doesn't grow in this section of the paddock. Red clover is just one of the species in the paddock, but it does hang on well, due to having deep roots that can find moisture deep underground. #cirponds #LifeOnTheLand #RedClover #AgHasYourBack #AusAg #AustralianAgriculture #AgHasYourBack #ag365 #FarmLife #LifeOnTheLand #NorthernTasmania #GrassFedBeef #GrowYouGoodThing #GrassFed

I've been loving summertime spinach, aka sweet potato leaves this summer 🙌 Not only are sweet potato leaves edible, but they are also packed with vitamin K with one cup of cooked leaves containing a whopping 58.2% of our daily needs plus a whole bunch of other vitamins and minerals. They taste mild and earthy and are not bitter like some other leafy greens and they can be used in so many different ways! I'm using them tonight in some satay yum yum 😋 Sweet potato thrives in our hot humid climate here in SE QLD and abundant enough that there's enough to share with the bugs 🐛 Have you been enjoying sweet potato leaves too? . . . . #sweetpotato #sweetpotatoleaves #abcmygarden #veggiegarden #gardening #organicgardening #urbangardening #permaculture #thehappygardeninglife #gardeningisfun #gardeningaustralia #homegardening #backyardgardening #epicgardening #growfoodnotlawns #thehappygardeninglife #sustainablegarden #suburbangardening #foodforest #veggiepatch #growyougoodthing #herbalwitch #harvest #gardenharvest #subtropicalgardening #growitlocal

Have been very busy with work, school and after school activities lately so found that sowing and up-potting a couple of plants a day made things a lot easier than trying to do it all at once - bite sized chunks 😊 #seedlings #seedsowing #plantingseeds #uppotting #growyougoodthing #plantingvegetables #myprideofplace #growingfood #growyourown #startsomewhere #nzvegetablegarden #urbangardens #summersend #herecomesautumn #planningahead #nzgardens #ediblegarden #eatwellforless #selfsufficiency #newzealandliving #gettingthingsdone #fromasmallseed

The mornings are starting to get cooler but the hot humid weather isn't going anywhere too fast just yet. I am very much looking forward to the autumn changes and cooler months ahead. I plan to embrace every day and enjoy the weather as much as possible before it heats up again. Who else is looking forward to autumn? . . . . . #abcmygarden #veggiegarden #gardening #organicgardening #urbangardening #permaculture #thehappygardeninglife #gardeningisfun #gardeningaustralia #homegardening #backyardgardening #epicgardening #growfoodnotlawns #thehappygardeninglife #sustainablegarden #suburbangardening #foodforest #veggiepatch #growyougoodthing #herbalwitch #harvest #gardenharvest #subtropicalgardening #growitlocal

The leaning tower of celtuce! Celtuce can be used in a few different ways, the leaves can be eaten raw or cooked and the stem with its light celery taste is used in Chinese cooking. I've deliberately let this one go without harvesting much off it as I want to collect its seeds because it has thrived in our hot wet summer, I defs want to be growing more of this in the garden! Have you tried celtuce before? . . . . . #celtuce #chopanddrop #chopanddropgarden #abcmygarden #veggiegarden #gardening #organicgardening #urbangardening #permaculture #thehappygardeninglife #gardeningisfun #gardeningaustralia #homegardening #backyardgardening #epicgardening #growfoodnotlawns #thehappygardeninglife #sustainablegarden #suburbangardening #foodforest #veggiepatch #growyougoodthing #herbalwitch #harvest #gardenharvest #subtropicalgardening #growitlocal

Starting the big end of summer chop and drop in preparation for autumn/winter crops. Leaves, branches, old annuals, weeds that haven't gone to seed make perfect materials for chop and drop adding nutrients back into the soil and supports soil life. Sure it looks a little untidy but it saves you time turning mounds of compost or removing the leaves etc off the property. Your basically creating what happens naturally in nature and your garden will love you for it! . . . . . #chopanddrop #chopanddropgarden #abcmygarden #veggiegarden #gardening #organicgardening #urbangardening #permaculture #thehappygardeninglife #gardeningisfun #gardeningaustralia #homegardening #backyardgardening #epicgardening #growfoodnotlawns #thehappygardeninglife #sustainablegarden #suburbangardening #foodforest #veggiepatch #growyougoodthing #herbalwitch #harvest #gardenharvest #subtropicalgardening #growitlocal #growitlocalawards2024 #sustainablegardening

Garlic order from @edenseedsau arrived today 🙌 the most delicious smelling parcel I have ever received haha! Going all out this season with bulk Glenlarge and giant Russian garlic, both varieties do exceptional well in SE QLD climate. Last year I couldn't get Glenlarge so I experimented with other varieties that were borderline ok for our climate but didn't get a good harvest as its too hot here and not a cool enough micro climate but hey that's what gardening is all about, experimenting and seeing what works and what doesn't work. Fingers and toes crossed for a good garlic season 🤞🤞🤞🤞 . . . .. #abcmygarden #veggiegarden #gardening #organicgardening #urbangardening #permaculture #thehappygardeninglife #gardeningisfun #gardeningaustralia #homegardening #backyardgardening #epicgardening #growfoodnotlawns #thehappygardeninglife #sustainablegarden #suburbangardening #foodforest #veggiepatch #growyougoodthing #herbalwitch #harvest #gardenharvest #subtropicalgardening #growitlocal #garlic

Out with the old and in with the new! Well not exactly... Part of the purpose of last week was to allow an opportunity for our 2023 participants to meet the 2024 participants and pass on any advice or words of wisdom they may have for the coming year, turns out the most common advice was "however cold you think it will be in the Dulacca shed in winter, it's colder!" ❄ But we're not done with the 2023 group just yet! They will now take on the important role of mentors to the incoming participants to provide support and guidance wherever they can. Thank you team 2023 for the past year, we can not wait to see what lies ahead for your regenerative journey! And welcome to the 2024 participants, it's already great to have you as part of the LHF team! #regenerativeagriculture #regenag #agriculture #agricultureaustralia #support #community #learning #growyougoodthing #pasturehealth #soilhealth #network #farmer #treeoflife #lachlanhughesfoundation

Dirt update for those playing along at home...just over 2 weeks growth and we have lots of lil green shoots making their way through the mud. Watering morning and night seems to be paying off. Grow lil grass!!! It's kind of satisfying watching it grow, exhausting watering, frustrating seeing small patches of dirt, wondering how many seeds those pigeons and friends actually ate... #grass #grassseeds #growyougoodthing #landscape #watering #tankwater #ours #kdr #knockdownrebuild

Happy National Agriculture Day! This is a day to celebrate the abundance of opportunities the Australian agricultural industry provides. Today, we recognise the importance of the agricultural and related industries, and the people who work in them. #agdayau #growyougoodthing
