#feelgoodfriday HEMP BOY! 💚 George is 5. He taught me a lesson the other day. George lives on his family's sheep & beef farm in South Canterbury, NZ. We've grown hemp before, so George knows first-hand just how amazing the hemp plant is. We were at a farmers market up in Cambridge, & a fella was selling 100% hemp hats… George picked one up. “That's a hemp hat I said”. Knowing how cool hemp is, George immediately said “I want one!!” He tried a few on and found the perfect fit. There was no price tag, so I asked the man how much... $50 each we found out. "WOOOH", I said, "NO, too expensive George" and then I went to walk away. His bottom lip started trembling and the tears started flowing. Still wearing the hat he said "But mum I really want the hat. I love hemp because it's good quality." (Side note: George has had his fair share of CRAP toys that fall apart way too quickly... He knows first-hand the value in & appreciates good quality because of this.) Well, you should have bought your pocket money George! I said. The negotiations ensued... “I've got my money at home. I'll give it to you when we get back!” He said. “You don't have that much money! I exclaimed, $50 is heaps!” “You could pay some and I'll pay the rest?” George said. “You won't be able to buy any toys for ages! You'll have to sell lots of eggs to make that money again!” I said. George replied, “That's OK, I really want it”. And the deal was done. George got his hemp hat. He wears it every day. He loves it. The best part, it's still going strong. 22 March 2024, the first day of @the_cannabis_expo and a whole day of knowledge sharing from @cheebaafrica’s key speakers for the Cheeba Cannabis Cultivation Summit! The expo started out with a bang and definitely ended with a bang again. Being female on its own is one thing, imagine being female and advocating for cannabis use! Trust me, it’s not a Zimbabwean or African issue but it’s global! In as much as history shows evidence of cannabis use from centuries ago, the stigmatisation still remains. Ever since I started working with the plant, in as much as I’ve had people who understand and or understood my work, the amount of backlash that I’d get was draining. At one point, even I myself began to ask if I was making sense you know! This expo together with the previous ones I’ve attended have helped keep me sane. I loved the fact that I’d get to sit down and actually listen to other female cannabis enthusiasts share their passion for the plant and the work that they are doing in the cannabis industry. Music to my ears, literally. Another important thing I noticed was how the South African youth are involved and active in the industry! I loved it, I loved it all! I look forward to seeing this more in my own country.

Hello everyone! 🫶 Sorry for being quiet on here recently. We hit our first bump in the road! 🤨🫨 This year we really wanted to end up with some beautiful yarn and fabric. As we wanted to keep things local ( and as of yet there are no 100% plant fibre spinning facilities ) we hoped for a wool hemp blend and for this we had to decorticate our hemp. Sadly we have been told this fibre is not spinable due to potentially under retting and decortication of the fibre. But don’t worry as we are artists we will do something creative with this fibre 🤩 Next year we are going back to basics and will process our hemp into the long gorgeous fibre it deserves ( it felt a shame to cut it up small anyway ) And maybe the next move for us is to take the fibre to France have it spun there.
