Our stay in the lovely holiday cottage at Drumnadrochit was simply magical. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the breathtaking views of Loch Ness, with majestic mountains and a castle all visible from the same side, while on the other side, another mountain stood tall, completing the picturesque scene. The cottage itself was charming, nestled in such a beautiful location that every moment felt like a scene from a postcard. As we settled in, we stumbled upon a piece of history in the guest information folder, a story about Mr. Campbell and his connection to the place. Whether he owned the cottage or was part of its rich history, it added an extra layer of intrigue to our stay. Every morning, we woke up to the serene beauty of the surroundings, enjoying our breakfast while gazing out at the tranquil waters of Loch Ness and the rugged mountains beyond. Evenings were spent cozying up by the fireplace, recounting our adventures of the day while marveling at the timeless beauty outside our window. You will certainly be up close to the Scottish wildlife during your stay at Tom Mòr, with regular sightings of deer 🦌, birds of prey 🦅, stoats, lots of rabbits 🐇, cows (especially of the orange hairy variety) and, of course sheep 🐑. We have done cruises and a number of nice holidays in our time but this place is placed up the top, the staff were very helpful and let you know some great places to visit however there was a lot of places within a 15 mile radius If you are looking for somewhere to go to fully relax rewind and chill out (in a cabin that looks out of a film set) then Eagle Brae is the place. It’s very easy to be inspired to write when your view is of a snow-sprinkled moor, the deer and pheasant are feeding outside your window and you have nothing to do other than to be thankful for once finding such a unique bolthole and hosts that bring hospitality to a whole new level. And I am very thankful. I was brought up in the Irish countryside, in the heart of the beautiful Boyne Valley. I enjoyed scrambling up haystacks in August, seeking out blackberries on the hedgerows in September and the smooth white heads of mushrooms in the fields in October. I enjoyed exploring the highways and byways on summer evenings, snooping through abandoned cottages, old churchyards, picking primroses, catching pinkeens in streams. I’m under no illusion that I was very lucky. But you always want what you don’t have and by my teenage years all I craved was the hustle and bustle of urban life. So since the age of 18 I’ve lived in the city, albeit for the main part by the sea. More than a few times I toyed with the idea of returning to my country roots, selling up and buying a rural home with a well-stocked garden, fruit trees and a stream. But when the kids were young enough to make a move, I wasn’t in that headspace and by the time I might have considered it, I wasn’t willing to uproot them, change schools, leave friends. You make your choices and mine centred around the girls, proximity to grandparents, friends, amenities. I’m very lucky that I have a husband who would be happy in either environment, once I’m happy😊. But I guess at heart I’m a country girl or at least a girl who appreciates the countryside, which is why being able to escape to remote places like this is so important to me.
