Just finished this wonderful gallery from a very adventurous elopement in Glencoe. Ayla and Matthew chose to split their elopement day into 2 parts - the first part of the day was spent meandering the cobbled streets of Edinburgh at sunrise and the second half was spent roaming the hills of Glencoe at sunset. There really aren’t any rules for how an elopement day should go, so if you’re out there with some ‘mad’ idea, I’m all for it! ♥️ I’ve also had a few elopements move around this year, which means that I now have a few more spots available. While Edinburgh has no shortage of gorgeous and photogenic locations, Dean Village is one of the best, imo. It's only a short walk from Pincess Street and is well worth the trek over. The architecture is fabulous as is the walk along the Water of Leith. The bridges offer views of the Water of Leith and the architecture, which is a winning combo, and it's one of those places that's lovely in all weather conditions! Do you recognise this loch? It’s probably one of the most visited in Scotland! Loch Lomond! We took a boat trip out on the loch last month, you can hire fishing boats and other craft from Loch Lomond Shores. It was the perfect way to explore! The fishing boat is slow, but cheaper than motorboats! It also has an engine that can be lifted out the water so you can land on the beaches rather than that having to find a pier like you would need to with a speedboat. It was lovely to pull the boat up onto the shores of Inchmurrin and enjoy the beach all to ourselves for a couple of hours. ❤️ Swipe across to the last photo to see the view from the island! It's behind-the-scenes time! @fergusgill, director of our documentary "Scotland - The New Wild," shared with us how he managed to get the perfect shot of wild beavers. 🦫 "I’d been out searching for a family of beavers that I could film throughout the Summer with little success. One evening, just before sunset, I decided to walk along the bank of a river that I hadn't searched before. For the first hour or so, I found some signs of beaver activity but had no sightings of beavers themselves, so I headed further upstream. Spotting a gap beneath some overhanging branches, I peered underneath and immediately froze. Looking up, I could see a beaver swimming up the other side of the river opposite me. I dared to film a short clip of it on my mobile through my binoculars as it swam past. I followed it upstream for another couple of minutes until it dived and disappeared. I waited around, and a few minutes later, I was surrounded by the whole family: two adults and three young kits all out foraging on the opposite bank. I dared not to move other than to film some more clips on my phone. The next night, I returned early and hid myself away on the opposite bank. I didn't have to wait long; the wind was in my favour, and they didn't seem to notice I was there, managing to get some lovely shots of the whole family together, grooming one another after a day spent in the lodge. Over the next few weeks, I returned almost every night. Eager to see what the kits would get up to as they grew ever bolder. They were so much fun to watch as they explored the river. Clambering up the banks and often falling back down. I found a new spot further downstream that they liked to visit, but it was mostly hidden from view, so it required me to put on a set of waders and sit in the shallow water, hidden amongst the vegetation. But the beavers didn't ever seem to notice me, happily going about their lives. It was magical." It's magical for us to see the amazing work of wildlife filmmakers. 🏴 "During World War II, France was under Nazi occupation. However, several French troops were evacuated from the country and wanted to still contribute to the war effort. These troops were known as the Free French Forces and continued to fight against the Axis powers after the fall of France. During the war, there was a large Free French Naval Forces base located at Greenock. To commemorate their effort and loss of life, this memorial was unveiled in 1946. With this being our final night in Scotland 🏴 I have a few thoughts. It’s a beautiful country with wonderful history and friendly people. Some of the sites don’t even seem real. It’s as if it’s movie special effects or another planet. The country cares about people and its citizens. We’ve witnessed unhoused people receiving food and care from charities. Every restaurant asks if you have allergies or special requirements for your food. There are plenty of public toilets and they are well maintained and many offer supplies for menstruation free of charge. Citizens over 60 receive free healthcare and can use public transportation free of charge. Speaking of public transportation it’s plentiful, inexpensive and clean. The people seem to be very open to other races and religions. Gloagburn Farm was a great option on Saturday for some wholesome fun! Tulip picking is a new favourite activity for sure! 💐 you pay for what you pick and just a heads up… their farm shop is just amazing! Why I love shooting at sunset. Whenever I chat to couples about timings, I often recommend sunset as my favoured time of day to finish, if that fits into your elopement day plans, of course. Here are three of the main reasons sunset is my favourite time of day: 1. You’ve had all day to get used to the camera, so by the time sunset comes around, you’re likely relaxed and more comfortable. So, when we’re in that lovely low light at sunset, we’re in the best position to make the most amazing photos. 2. It’s often less crowded, particularly through the late Spring-Summer seasons when sunset is quite late. This means there’s less noise, less people, and it feels like the landscape is your own. 3. It’s no secret that us photographers aren’t too keen on those clear blue skies, with harsh sunlight. I much prefer making photos in low light or on cloudy days, where we can make use of all of that mood. If the weather forecast says it’s due to be a sunny day, then finishing at sunset means we can get that beautiful golden hour light. 💛¿Qué es la historia sin memoria?💛 Hace un año mi esposo me hizo este precioso reportaje embarazada y que debido a que me convertí en madre antes de tiempo nunca llegué a subirlo. Pero justo un año después decido mostraros estas bonitas fotos porque estoy recordando lo feliz que fui ese día, porque quiero conmemorar lo bonito que ha sido este último año y sobre todo porque quiero reivindicar todo lo bueno que hemos disfrutado mi marido y yo desde ese preciso momento. Por supuesto que hemos vivido días estresantes desde entonces en los que no sabíamos que hacer pero poco a poco nos hemos encontrado y somos los padres más felices del mundo. Ahora somos una familia pero seguimos siendo un matrimonio en el que más que nunca hay respeto y unión. Nuestra niña nos ha hecho más fuertes, nos ha hecho enamorarnos más del uno del otro y quería recordar todo esto que forma parte de nuestra historia, ¿Porqué que es la historia sin registro o memoria?. 📖Quitando la parte sentimental y cómo vuestra guía Española en Escocia tengo que contaros que este reportaje me lo hizo mi marido en uno de los pueblecitos más bonitos de Escocia y en su palacio: Culroos. Ahora muy famoso por ser uno de los escenarios icónicos donde se grabó Outlander. Pero con anterioridad ser popular por una leyenda. Está cuenta que cuando la princesa británica Teneu, hija del rey de Lothian quedó embarazada (Aquí hilando la historia con mis fotos) antes de casarse ya que en aquella época era impensable y mucho más en una princesa, su familia la arrojó por un acantilado. Ella sobrevivió a esa terrible caída y pronto fue recibida por un barco no tripulado. Sabía que no tenía un hogar al que ir puesto que la habían intentado matar, así que se subió a esa barca que la llevó través del Firth of Forth hasta aterrizar en Culross, donde fue atendida por Saint Serf que se convirtió en el padre adoptivo de su hijo, San Kentigern o San Mungo, personaje muy importante para los Escoceses ya que aparte de ser ordenado como obispo y ser uno de los predicadores más importantes de la época britana (Finales del siglo VI), fundó la ciudad de Glasgow donde dejó su gran catedral, que a día de hoy se puede visitar. ¿Real?
