NC500 Day 4 Durness to Kinlochewe After a very windy night - where the van was rocking 😳 - I set off down the west coast of the Highlands. A journey full of Wow! moments. I encountered spectacular vistas despite the rain, sleet, hail and mist in this rugged and remote landscape. On the single track roads I barely saw another vehicle. Puffins. I was on the edge of commencing the long drive back, when I sat on the grass to admire the view of the Pentland Firth and the dominating cliffs of the Orkney Islands when a little head popped up above the cliff edge. Finally I had found what I was looking for. A lot smaller than I had imagined, but as colourful as I had hoped! After multiple weekends in a row, searching the cliff tops, I had finally found them, at RSPB Dunnet Head in time for Sunset. A truly amazing place, and whether you like birds or not, a great place to stop for the views! You can even park your vans there to catch the views. If you do stop there, there is a suggested payment for use of the car park, for which I would strongly suggest doing to help maintain this place for everyone. Born in Glasgow on this day in 1931, Lonnie Donegan was the first male performer to twice reach the top 10 in the US Charts. The "King of Skiffle", as he was known, had 31 top 30 hits in the UK as well as writing songs which were hits for others. He's responsible for the epically named "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose its Flavour (on the Bedpost Overnight) which should guarantee him world wide fame all by itself. ✨Dolphin watching at Chanonry Point, Fairy Glen Falls & Fyrish Monument - Start of the NC500✨ Wow the dolphins!! 🐬 We’d heard about Chanonry Point before the trip and how close we could get to wild dolphins but we never thought we’d be lucky enough to experience it! Just a magical morning all round! 🥰 We then went on to complete a shorter walk around the beautiful Fairy Glen Falls and a longer hike up to Fyrish Monument. Vom CORRIESHALLOCH GORGE VIEWPOINT hat man einen weiten Blick bis über das LOCH DROMA. CORRIESHALLOCH GORGE selbst ist touristisch erschlossen, also Eintritt und angelegte Wege zu den Wasserfällen, und der ABHAINN DROMA BRIDGE über den Hauptwasserfall. Bei der Weiterfahrt wurden wir daran erinnert, dass noch einige Meilen auf der NC500 vor uns liegen. Day 8 - from Sango Sands we went to Wailing Widow Falls, driving over the Kylesku Bridge. The parking layby at the bottom of the Falls was full so we had to park at the top so we didn't get a great view. Then we drove onto Clashnessie Falls, by then the sun was out and it was quite warm. The scenery was amazing the whole journey and we even spotted 3 red stags.Then it was onto our stop for the night - @clachtoll_beach_campsite Another lovely site with a great pitch - beach and sea views.
