On the road 🚐 We’ve spent a lot of time driving the last couple of days. Thankfully, Pablo is a very easy passenger. He just sits or lies silently in his travel crate, from time to time poking his head out the top. Every time we switch drivers or having some food, he gets a pee break and some water. Winter has made a comeback!🥶 While February and March felt almost like Summer, April and beginning of May are bringing back frost. ❄️ We were planning on having a nice picnic last weekend, but due to the cold weather we decided to do a small hike instead, to keep us moving and warm. Rainy dog walk 🌧️ I used River’s @hurttacollection Venture No-Pull Harness and lead. It has a useful front and back ring which I clipped the lead on to have more control, it also has a waterproof padding. The handle on the top is also handy if I need to grab her quickly. I’ve used other no pull harnesses before but they seem to slip and cause discomfort under her armpits. [annonse] Weeeeeeee💨 This weekend was one that I wish all weekends looked like. We had amazing weather(20c) and spent a lot of time outside! Yesterday we went for 2 and a half hour hike. It was one we have done a few times but it was a while ago. Spring really seems to have arrived as many trees where already getting their leaves and we saw a few wild animals! Splinter also loved it, especially all the water and the lose sand. He dug a very big hole😂. Today we went for a hike in the forest behind our house. The birds where chirping and the bees where zooming. Splinter was the happiest about the lake being liquid again. I almost thought he wanted to go for a swim, but he stayed with his paws on the ground🌊. Byyou a été parfaite ce week-end 💪🏻 Ce week-end 2 meilleurs amis de François sont venus passer 4 jours à la maison 😎 Byyou a vu un peu son quotidien bouleversé mais elle s’est totalement adaptée à la situation ; bref je suis une maman fière 🥹 D’abord elle a respecté nos invités, et après quelques non de leurs parts, le Kelpie a rapidement compris qu’elle ne pouvait pas dormir avec eux dans le lit la nuit. Elle jonglait donc naturellement entre ses paniers et notre lit sans les harceler la nuit puisqu’ils dormaient dans le canapé lit. Ensuite, elle a vécu sa plus longue absence (12h) avec juste une petite sortie le midi pour les besoins par nos amis voisins. J’ai été étonnée d’apprendre qu’elle a été super calme à son arrivée et qu’elle n’a pas fait de pipi de joie. Je me demande alors si ce n’est pas la présence de François et/ou moi qui la conditionne indirectement à faire une méga fête un peu brutus lorsque nous croisons du monde. En notre présence, elle fait souvent des pipis de joie lorsqu’elle dit bonjour aux gens ou aux chiens si elle n’a pas fait ses besoins au préalable 🤷🏼♀️ Et enfin, elle nous a suivi pour un run de 8km avec un rythme soutenu en forêt ce dimanche matin ; une première « longue distance » pour elle 🏃🏼♀️ Bon sans vous mentir je n’ai pas de mérite car j’ai suivi la dream team à vélo vu que mon cardio est équivalent à celui d’une huître mais Byyou a eu un très bon rythme. Et SURTOUT elle a assez rapidement compris qu’il ne fallait pas embêter la Jack Russel de notre voisine qui nous a également accompagné. De plus, en liberté sur la totalité du parcours ; elle a ignoré chaque croisement vélo / jogger à la perfection 😎 Bref ! C’était un week-end intense ; nous sommes lessivés 🤣 Qu’avez-vous fait ce week-end ? Départ d’Annecy pour rejoindre les hauteurs de Faverges. Une journée parfaite où le soleil était de la partie. Nous n’avons pas pu monté au refuge à plus de 1800 m car le chemin rempli de neige était impraticable, mais cela ne nous a pas empêché de profiter de la vue sur le lac d’Annecy. Ich bin die Böse, und egal wie, "rustikal" oder weich der Umgang ist, die Menschen sind emphatisch und bringen ihren Hund oder ihre Katze durch die Situation. Während die einem ein gewohntes "Sitz!" auf dem Tisch befehlen, streicheln die anderen das Fell förmlich ab. Manche trösten ihr Tier und manche sagen "ich weiß, das ist unangenehm, aber da musst du kurz durch, danach gibt's nen Keks". Ich bin fasziniert von den individuellen Beziehungen, wie anpassungsfähig die Tiere sind und wie viel sie geben können. Ich beobachte das Miteinander unheimlich gerne. (Fast) nichts davon ist falsch, Mensch und Tier kommen als Einheit. Sie sind eingespielt, jeder kennt und händelt die Macken des anderen. Und jeden Tag werde ich so daran erinnert, dass man tolerant sein muss. Nicht nur der eigene Weg ist der richtige. Es gibt ganz viele richtigs in ganz vielen Beziehungen. Es lohnt nicht mal, zu vergleichen. So lange die Beziehung auf gegenseitigem Respekt und Vertrauen gebaut ist, sie mit Humor gelebt und sich geliebt wird, so lange man ehrlich und authentisch ist, so lange gibt es fast kein falsch. Ist doch egal, was andere machen, das ist ihr Ding, mit deren Umständen und in deren Leben. Das darf ganz anders als das eigene sein. (und ja, natürlich Tierschutz-Aspekt und artgerechte Haltung/Auslastung vorausgesetzt) In diesem Sinne: genießt eure gemeinsame Zeit, macht euer Ding und liebt alles daran. Nous partons dans un peu plus d’un an de la Belgique. Avec mon cheri, nous avons décidé de visiter les endroits phares de ce petit pays avant notre départ. Ce jour là, nous avions prévu de découvrir une réserve naturelle pas si loin de la maison. Le temps était menaçant mais cela ne nous a pas arrêté pour profiter du lieu. D’ailleurs, la pluie a rapidement pointé le bout de son nez ! Dans ce cas là, nous avons toujours en randonnée un imperméable à Byyou qui traîne dans le sac à dos et nous l’équipons rapidement pour qu’elle puisse rester au sec. Sinon entre 2 averses nous aimons oui enlever pour la laisser explorer en toute légèreté ! Encore de merveilleux souvenirs lors de nos aventures Belges ! Et nous sommes bien content d’avoir un Kelpie qui ne sent pas le chien mouillé à cause de la pluie en rentrant de balade 😏 Et vous ? The feeling, when you dip your wee paws in the lake for the first time this Spring 🐶😍 "The snow has melted here in Sweden and we feel that warm spring days are coming (well we hope so) and us and the dogs are spending more and more time outdoors again. You can really see that they are ready for new adventures and for soaking up the sun and don´t want to be inside so much anymore. But spring means that the weather can change very quickly, one day it´s sunny and warm and the other day it´s chilly again with a cold breeze and even light snow. Summer is just around the corner and we are so looking forward to going further and hiking more with a 1.5 year old real dog now! Here’s to 30! 🥂 29 has been a whirlwind. Lots of achievements, lots of changes. I finished my PhD, got married, left the Netherlands, and started travelling. Doesn’t sound too shabby listing it like that. 30 is promising to be wild. We’re going to be travelling and camping around Scandinavia for 4-5 months, visit South Africa (where my husband is from) for 2-3 months, and then start job hunting and looking for an apartment in Germany. The picture is quite old but it shows me at my happiest and most true to myself: dishevelled, without makeup, and in nature with my boys. My favorite riding buddies ❤️ Lea and I had a great day riding the horses and soaking in how GORGEOUS spring is here in eastern Washington. We were about to head out for our ride and a nice gal pulled up and unloaded her horse and asked if she could join us on our ride. It was unexpected but ended up being so fun! Ford had some trouble figuring out that heeling next to her and her horse was absolutely not what I was asking of him but it was a great opportunity to practice with him and strengthening that cue. From his perspective on the ground I’m not sure how much attention he pays to the person up on the horse 🤦🏻♀️ We did have a super unfortunate dog encounter where 2 off leash pointers under 0 control ran up to Griff head on. We were about to cross a little stream on a narrow path between 2 bodies of water and one of the dogs just stood in front of Griff playing in the water which caused Griff to get nervous about moving forward. The owner of the dogs seemed super inconvenienced that they needed to grab their dog. I have actually 0 issue with dogs off leash.. IF that dog is under control and you could bet money your dog will recall and won’t approach others without permission but I do have big issues with owners that act like their dogs can do whatever they want because they are “friendly”. Ford is NEVER allowed to approach other trail users without permission. It’s the same expectation I’ve always had for him on leash so the concept is really strong with him. I also don’t know why these hikers didn’t step off the narrow trail for us to pass in the first place. I will often move the horses off the trail a bit if I can while hikers pass for everyone’s safety but other trail users are ALWAYS supposed to yield to horses. Aside from that ordeal (thanks for listening to my rant) we had a perfect day with well behaved horses and a dog that always tries his very best to be a good trail buddy.
