Land of the Osprey. Or should it be Lake of the Osprey? On the first day of the Florida's Birding and Photo Fest I only had a sunrise session at the Lighthouse, so I decided to use the opportunity to spend some time with some great friends. One I've known for almost 30 years, the other just a few years, but I knew some time out making images would be fun. We had heard about a place, Blue Cypress Lake in Vero Beach, that was supposed to be the largest gathering of Osprey in North America, if not the world. Many of the Osprey migrate up from as far away as Brazil. I have read different estimates and the high end were over 400 nests, and over 1200 Osprey in some years. We did a fairly small section of the lake and I would say we saw well over 50-75 nests and over a few hundred Osprey. We went in the afternoon, which made the lighting a challenge for the area we went, morning would be better for this area, but you could go to other areas of the lake with success as well. We used Blue Cypress Lake Tours and could not have been happier with the service. Very knowledgeable and offered a lot of information to us. To get a morning session, you need to book well in advance. I took this from the top of Mount Diablo which is at 3,849 above sea level. The bridge in the picture is the Antioch Bridge which is a way to cross the San Joaquin River. One side of the bridge is Contra Costa County while the other end is Sacramento County. I took this with my 150-600mm Tamron lens without the use of my tripod. This weekend, I was sitting outside in my backyard watching the cardinals flying around in my backyard and at my bird feeder. I so wished I could hold my camera in my broken arm to take pictures, but I am sidelined for a while. Therefore, it made me look back at some of my images from last spring of the cardinals. I really like what the cardinals symbolize luck, hope, passed loved ones, confidence, and love. Seeing a cardinal might bring good fortune or signify that a passed loved one is near. Pastel dreams ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I can’t believe that in less than a month, I will be returning to my favorite place again. This is something that felt so far out of my reach earlier this year, and my physical therapist actually advised against pursuing the same goals I have set for myself. I heard this somewhere recently - “impossible is an opinion” - maybe that sounds cliche in some scenarios, but I do agree that no conclusion should be made until the very end with some other aspects as life unfolds itself before us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As I ramp up on my training again in preparation for summer, I am reminiscing some of my longer days in the mountains from dusk till dawn. Dreams are made for those who are willing to take the shot. This upcoming season will be filled with thrill and excitement, I just know it already.

A short par 3, the 3rd hole at @white_bear_yacht_club isn't easy. One of the cool things about this hole is that there are photos of it during a tournament back in the 1920s in the Minnesota Historical Society photograph collection. Just seeing photos from that far back and realizing that this hole has been tough for many more people than I could ever imagine makes me feel better when I bogey it. 😄

Under Mom's wing. I am back in Bear Woods, and sort of rested after a great trip to St. Augustine for the Florida's Birding and Photo Fest. Once again I got to see some old friends and of course make some new ones too! We did a few trips and outings to the Alligator Farm, and as usual, it did not disappoint. The Alligator Farm is a rookery for many birds, as they rely on the Alligators to offer protection from ground predators. It can be a brutal example of nature too as the Alligators capitalize on any birds that fall from nests or are careless and not paying attention. The neatest thing though is seeing all the stages of the lives of the newly hatched chicks. This image shows what I refer to as the bobblehead stage where the chicks do their best to simply hold their heads up without too much wobbling. It was neat to see how protective the adults are with the younger chicks especially. Here one was preening with the youngsters relaxing beneath it. I thought of it as a learning time for the little ones as well.
