It is just a little over a year since I lost my mother. She had an intense love of nature and gardening, something she passed onto her children. She had given me a variety of iris, many did not make it through the extreme weather we have had these years. I thought I had lost those iris, just like I lost her. Then right before an intense windstorm, after years of not blooming, her very first gift of giant bearded iris, a ghostly white with hints of yellow, bloomed. Somehow they made it through the storm, a bit battered, but still strong and resilient, like my mother was. Day 107: Kicked off the day with rain drops. Ended the day with blooms. Mid-afternoon snaps of a butterfly visitor and Milly modeling my @goodr pair that is my go-to on rainy days. I practice "distracted gardening." That's why until I saw this purple-blue iris bloom in a pot beneath my awning, I had forgotten about it. Day 102: Terrific Thursday that included feeding some bees (my sponge approach seem to be working!!!), fixing my wooden gate door that had a loose board (I couldn’t find a regular hammer but did find a mallet), capturing the beauty of my walking iris (8:15 am vs 3:45 pm difference), and finally freaking out the neighbors dogs when I dropped her a pot over the fence. The pot is a life size dachshund that @connie.white.127 couldn’t really fit in her luggage so we decided to gift it to my neighbor. Her frenchies, Bella and Lily, definitely thought there was an intruder. Day 100: Should have known day 100 of the year was gonna be nuts….Got up early to get my mom @connie.white.127 off to the airport and noticed that my iris had 2!?!? flower pods ready to go…of course later in the day they decided to open (shhh I don’t think they liked my mom 😆). Thankfully @tsa didn’t have a problem with all the plants she had packed in her bags /score! Taught both classes online due to pending bad weather that looks like it’s actually rolling in tonight /sigh Post class and pre storms, I was able to head outside and do a little bit more work in the yard. Lost a toenail stubbing my toe on the broom I keep outside, found and relocated a caterpillar while I was dumping old dirt, and snapped some pics of butterflies and bees sharing the hummingbird feeder. To top it all off?!?! Random invite to @olivegarden by a student who I guess is working at one that is doing a soft opening.
