I thought the series Big Boys on Channel 4 was such an important and amazingly funny series that I’d give the book, written by series creator Jack Rooke, a try. I loved it just as much. Equal parts heart breaking and heartwarming, laugh out loud funny then welling up reading it at work. The tragic loss of his Dad when he was just 15, going to Uni, losing his friend to suicide. There is such authenticity, warmth and heart in this series that it feels impossible to not see yourself in it to some extent. It is a story about loss, grief, mental health, but it is also a celebration of life, friendship, youth and finding yourself. Big Boys captures the joy in the imperfections of life in such a real, genuine way and it is a brilliant example of how TV can be true to life and uplifting at the same time. Big Boys will make you think, cry, reminisce, but most importantly it will make you laugh, it is a big hug of a show that is a pleasure and honour to watch. Big Boys - All4 This was a heart warming comedy/drama. It was funny but also showed some very relatable moments. Dealing with loss/grief, family relationships, friendships, Alzheimers, and the most important one being mental health especially mens mental health. Positive representation of the LGBTQIA community. I liked how Jack Rooke was narrating it. It was set 10 years ago, I liked how many celebrities and tv shows were mentioned. The friendship between Jack and Danny, proved that they both needed each other as support during university and in life in general and proving friends have your back no matter what.
