π₯΅ AN UPDATE IN THIS HOT WEATHER π₯΅ Since two weeks the weather has turned and it's very very hot. The end of season is near and we feel and see that in everything. We have been busy with music, trying to run JM and online work this season and it was a bit too much. So, a few weeks back we decided we would keep JM closed for the remaining weeks of the season and take this as an opportunity to think about how we see the future of JM. Ofcourse we are still around at the place. Kaya still loves running through the jungle but because of the heat it also makes her really tired. π―οΈ THE VALUE OF WATER AND ELECTRICITY π―οΈ We have to admit... When Patrick @crocodiles.pro came and worked with us and said he had no problem without electricity or running water (except for the river), that's where he earned our massive respect. Then @kivircikbets and @maddi_9548 came and ended up in the same situation. Of course we warn people before, but experiencing it yourself is different. They never complained and BetΓΌΕ even said it made her realise the value of electricity, something that can be seen as a beautiful lesson. But...the last week a lot has changed. Our solar panels are working completely fine. The water π¦ can be pumped up from the ground, which means we can use the shower and handwash. Also there is light, so Lenny made a new one for the kitchen and Anouk bought some colourful ones for the restaurant area. π₯IMPROVEMENTSπ₯ A lot has happened in the last days. The structure of the roof is finished and the first layer of chattai is placed! This year we have decided to make it waterproof so we are going to use a layer of plastic as well. Rain has been too unpredictable the last two seasons and we don't want to have to cancel events last minute because of weather. Besides the roof, we have also put the solar panels back on. Now we only still need to find someone who can install them.. πΆ POOR KAYA πΆ As some of you might know, Kaya is a shy dog when it comes to new people and to large groups of people. So, since the first year she made herself a safe spot under our stage in the restaurant (pic 1). She would lay there to protect herself from the sun, to sleep and to hide for new people and groups. The first year there was only a small hole, but over the years as Kaya got bigger, she dug herself a pretty big space. Unfortunately the wood of the stage is now not safe anymore after 3 years of usage, so we decided it was time to took it down. Necessary, but also means a goodbye to Kaya's spot. She looked strangely at it when we did that (pic 2) and still tried to be under it (pic 4). πͺ΅ REUSING πͺ΅ After we took our broken roof down, we had a lot of wood left. Not the best wood to build with anymore, but definitely good enough to reuse for some other purposes. So now that we are going to make our vegetable garden bigger and at a different spot we need proper fencing! A perfect purpose for this wood. So Lenny started building the fence a few days back. βοΈ Back in Goa βοΈ After a few months in the Netherlands we arrived back in Goa. While being back home we already heard that our structure did not completely survive the last cyclone. After 4 or 5 cyclones and 3 full seasons, our roof collapsed. Something we did expect that would happen soon and we were planning on building a new roof anyway. So, not the worse that could happen but still kind of painful to see. Kaya did like it (swipe to next pic) cause it was her shelter to protect her from the rain that fell yesterday. We will now as soon as possible start building a more stronger and durable structure! This will be quite costly, so our crowdfunding is still open if you want to support us ππ. π VOLUNTEER SARVESH π The last two weeks we had the honor of Sarvesh helping us out! Sarvesh works for a Dutch company so while working, we could also exchange some language skills! π He helped us take care of the garden, plant new plants, water them and he even bought us a new plant as a reminder of him! He helped us behind the bar, he made some awesome new signs and he collected a lot of wood for the bonfire π₯. This was his first experience as a volunteer and we loved that he wanted to spend that time at Jungle Melody. He had to combine the work at our place with his regular job, so this guy worked hard! Anouk also took some paint and painted the floor of the hut! We have had great suggestions from you guys about the color. Only some finishing touches, like cutting the mats and bamboo and making the balcony! Then the outer part of the hut is done and the decoration part starts π . π¨βπ§FROM ONE PROJECT TO THE NEXT π¨βπ§ After putting the roof, it was time for a new project! At the end of last season we got extra solar panels, so our frame for the panels needed to be extended. So, digging holes again, taking of bark, measuring the poles and levelling them was needed to make this happen. Luckily Lenny and Jimmy are a dreamteam, so everything went quick. π΄TAKING OFF BARK (all day long) π΄ . Today we knew was going to be a tough one as a lot of bark needed to be removed from the logs. Luckily Jimmy had a great idea of how to do that. We used a big stick or bone to hit the logs and it actually worked perfect! So we managed to do way more than expected. See how much bark is on the floor... . π΅BUTTERFLY BEACH CLEAN UP π΅ Kaya πΆ thinks: what is all this mess? And yes. We think the same. Half a year ago we did a huge clean up here. When a friend asked us this week to join and clean up again after she saw the beach full of rubish, we had to say yes. And so we did today, with a nice group of motivated people. We didnt manage to clean all, as it was a lot (AGAIN), so we will go back to collect some bags every time and bring them where they belong. For the people going there: PLEASE take your trash back with you. And even better.. Take some extra trash that lays around as well π. πA WEEKEND WELL SPENT π Weekends dont really exist here, so we just work as on weekdays. This Saturday Lenny and Jimmy continued building the fence and started levelling our second entrance. Anouk recreated the path to our second floor and took off the bark of our pillars (always a fun job π). Now they only need some protection furnish and then we can use them! . On Sunday we wanted to do some shopping for some supplies. This was already a risk.. As it was Sunday. Luckily we did find most what we needed, so everything seemed fine. BUT then the transporttruck couldn't deliver it. For delivering at our place you need a forest pass, and apparently you can't get one on a Sunday. .
