Day 2 we hiked up the mountain to stay the night in a small hut. This is going to be where we will stay with our volunteers on future trips. We met the head chief of a local tribe, shot some traditional bow and arrows and even had a traditional feast that was presented to us on giant banana leaves and had to eat with our hands. I’m so thankful for @confidentlyyouwithernie and her family for setting us up and making sure we had everything we needed. It’s been an unforgettable experience so far. Peek a Boo, this was our first sleeping spot in the Cambodian jungle. We arrived around 18h30 in the complete dark and our team of rangers - cooks - guides build this hammock camp out of just some bamboo. Sleeping in the jungle is one of the most intense experiences. 🤩 The skies are dark and full of stars (no light pollution) and the soundscape is incredible - variety and volume are like in an orchestra, and I really mean it. 🦗🦉🦧🦏 🎼 . We did it in Costa Rica, Ecuador and now in Nepal - staying at a simple wooden outpost in the forest. 🏚️ No A/C (get ready for extreme humidity, heat and sticky skin), a bed covered in mosquito nets (you will quickly learn why 🦟🕷️🐜), solar shower and compost/rainwater toilet. . What you get? A night you will remember. 🖤 This time we saw a golden sunset with dramatic clouds over the grasslands, rhinos puffing in the dusk, rhinos marching peacefully past a herd of deer, stars, colorful butterflies and elephants in the morning. At night it was thundering mildly and raining hard. Then all the crickets and birds stop singing and a beautiful lulling silence full of raindrops falls over the forest. 🌧️🌳💤 . Die Plattform wackelt, etwas Mächtiges ist soeben aufgesprungen und macht es sich direkt neben mir gemütlich. Allein das Insektennetz trennt mich von dem, was ich in der Dunkelheit nicht erkenne. Es gähnt. Denkt nicht mal daran, bald wieder zu verschwinden. Wer kann es verübeln, bin ich hier doch der wahre Eindringling. Herzklopfen. Warten. Aushalten. Haushalten. Durst. Mist. Selbstgespräch:„Empowerment Dinzl, Empowerment." Augen fest zudrücken. Problem gelöst. Tatsächlich schlafe ich ein, eingeholt von der Akzeptanz, hier eben der Gast im Tierrevier zu sein. Als ich aufwache, wartet bereits ein freundliches, ungeduldiges Fellgesicht auf mich. Kein Schlangenmonster, kein baumkletternder Ziegenbock, nur ein sabbernder Hund, der mit Augen nach Leckerlis verlangt. Ich schenke ihm mein Croissant und von da an sind wir Baumhaus-Freunde. Pünktlich zur zweiten Nacht erscheint Hund, den ich Hund nenne, erneut und wacht neben mir. Spending the night in a cave behind a waterfall… umm yes please! 🙌🏽 My final adventure in Costa Rica was to hike up a big a$$ mountain and spend the night in an incredible cave that’s hidden behind the most beautiful set of waterfalls I’ve ever seen. We had our own guide who taught us so much about the local plants and wild life around AND he also cooked us lunch, dinner, and breakfast the next day. The cave had a full functioning kitchen and even had a toilet and shower, for crying out loud. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end the trip! I definitely recommend this excursion to anyone visiting the Dominical area that’s just south of Manuel Antonio. Thank you @fabfunkyflower for the recommendation! It was truly unforgettable! 🌟 CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENTS🌟 I read this quote today: 'continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection'. And thats so true. . We try to make our place better and better every day. And I think these last days show some nice improvements 👌. . The hut is almost done, as you can see in the pictures. The windows are there and the walls/roof are up. Only some finishing touches, like cutting the mats and bamboo and making the balcony! Then the outer part of the hut is done and the decoration part starts 😍 . Today Lenny also made some improvements in the kitchen, by making some bamboo shelves (pic 4&5)! . And Nidhi and Anouk transformed our former toilet (which had to be removed last year..) into the start of our herb garden (pic 6). . 👩🎨MORE ART. ART. ART.👩🎨 Weeks ago I met @amrietaa_arun. She heard about our place, came in and told us she would love to make a painting here. Well.. You only have to tell us that once! So she started the art, mixing clay and water and in this way creating natural paint 😍. Together with her friend @vivekanandaaaa they started with a great painting. It was a lot of work and they couldn't finish it totally, but already the wall looked awesome. BUT after a few weeks home she came back 😁. This time with friend @fakeeriyat. 🎉FINALLY WE CAN TELL🎉 We now have SOLAR PANELS ☀ 😁. This is a big step in being selfsustainable ❤️. We had to finish our structure before Wednesday, because that was the day our panels would arrive. We wanted to make a good structure for the panels, combined with a storage area and a start of our new chilling space! Our last two loooong days have been about this only. We were going to write the whole story, but its just too long. So lets just say... Even our indian friends were surprised how the company handled this installation. Think that says enough. We are very very thankful that @nomadicmerijn and @joyous_judy were there to help us, that @weedyrasta did the installation for us (and so much more) and that @dharini_somani helped installing the floor. Yesterday was an amazing day 😁. We were planning on starting with the area for the toilet. We knew we were gonna have some help of one of our friends Jay. But when we started working two more people joined us! @tejutejasgowda and @darshu_harish saw our project, were curious and decided to help us for a day! Amazing! . Because of this help we were able to clear the whole area for the toilet, replant a lot of bamboo 🌿 and cleared the whole hut!! . Clearing the hut hurted a little, as it is the very first thing we builded here. Lenny and Kaya have spent a lot of nights in this hut. But now we are just not using it anymore and it was ruining the view. So.. We took it down, with the help of many hands and a lot of fun.
