"I am not what happened to me I am what I chose to be" -Carl Jung I love this quote and what it stands for but it left me feeling incomplete in that I need to accept myself as a whole in order to myself take action to be who I choose to be leading me to "I do NOT have to be what happened to me, The mistakes I have made, Or what other percieve me to be; I CAN be who I chose to be.." We must not only accept and forgive what had been done to us but accept and forgive what we have done to ourselves. We also must let go of what others think or may think about us. Today's challenge is to take 5 or 10 mins reflect on 1 or 2 of your own faults, forgiving yourself for those faults as well as working towards improving them. I am going to work on this with you in order to grow and be the man I not only want, and choose, to be but the man I NEED to be. I have struggled with some sort of depression most of my life. When people would tell me things like this quote it was so frustrating to me because I could not understand how to think positive. What I learned was to start simple; take pleasure in the little things. Sypsey Shakedown Pt.2 The water in the small streams and rivers are so clear you can easily capture a reflection just about at every turn. A caterpillar decided to visit a hikers shoulder strap. Not that they have good taste in gear. My old dana... let me say I think I may love you now more than ever. In this humidity and the back pad foam being the only thing gone it was much cooler yet handled the weight and felt just like home. Because the water was so low and trails difficult to navigate I decided to enjoy the stream hiking down till I found a place to crash. Kept it simple just tarp/poncho and sheet. Jetboil to purify water and cooked in an old pot on the fire Next morning on the way out via stream came across some beautiful residents. Some more terrifying than others. Tress were down but water was so low it didn't matter. Sypsey Shakedown p:1 My personal goals with this very short outing was simply to get out again and check the gear I have but mainly to relax and enjoy the beauty around me. The adventure started with blackberrys and nice weather for mid day July in Alabama. The trails were a bit overgrown but this is part of the absolute joy of sypsey.
