Get downtown this weekend to cheer on all the racers and enjoy what Kalamazoo has to offer 🏃♀️🎉 Runners and walkers will be starting and ending at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place in Downtown Kalamazoo (145 E Water St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007). The Marathon starts at 7:00 AM, followed by the Half Marathon at 8:30. The 10K Run begins at 8:50 AM followed by the 5K Walk/Run at 9:00 AM. Leaving this post here as a reminder to my future self. Somewhere along the way in the last few months I let my competitive side take over and I forgot why I started to run to begin with. This last weekend, I completed my fourth official half marathon. I set out determined to have it be my fastest yet. Halfway through, I realized I was behind pace, got discouraged, and finished the race miserably because I wasn't going to hit my goal. This morning I was curious about my total miles for the year so I opened up my running apps to review the data. Turns out that out of all of the half marathons I've completed in the last three years officially and in training, this weekend was my third fastest that I have data for. I also hit my third fastest 20k time ever. I've recorded over 250 miles this year, not counting training completed on a treadmill (which is most of my marathon training in early 2023). I finished my first marathon and fourth half marathon. I had more good running days than bad ones. And had you asked me four years ago if I would ever sign up for the Chicago Marathon lottery, I would have thought you were crazy. This shirt perfectly sums up how I should have gone into my race this weekend. 🏃Highlighting Global Running Day is SFC Eubanks, who grew up in a small town in North Carolina and began his journey in the Army on his 25th birthday. At his first unit he entered the Army’s overweight program. There, he learned how to properly exercise and run, which created his passion for running that continues to this day. His self determination and motivation has driven him to prepare for the running event known as the Cruel Jewel 50. This is a 50 mile race that stretches through the high temperatures and rough terrain of the North Georgia Mountains. “Unfortunately, due to knee inflammation that caused me to not be able to run, I had to drip at mile 23 of the race. The Cruel Jewel 50 is a race that is extremely difficult in many ways and completion is never guaranteed, in it or any ultramarathon. Part of running these races is dealing with failure and learning from it. It's never easy dealing with a DNF (Did Not Finish), but it's a reality when you compete in this sport. When a goal is this difficult, you know it's one that is worth it! I will continue to run this race until I complete it to my personal standards.” SFC Eubanks will run the Cruel Jewel again in 2025 after he retires and can train on the actual course. SFC Eubanks’ continuously extends his motivation and influence within Bronco Battalion. Most recently, he completed back-to-back marathons in April. Yes! That’s 52.4 miles in one weekend! One of which he completed with Bronco Battalion Run Club cadets. 🚨 NEW PR 🚨 Started strong, REALLY strong, nearly crashed and burned, and still stumbled away from the finish line with a new PR of 3:08:17 (prev. 3:17:24 in Chicago this past year). This was a sneaky tough course with rolling hills throughout and a grueling last few miles with no crowd support. All that said, the organizers put on a great race. They even had a UCAN drink at each aid station. This race was a huge confidence booster heading into summer training and the ultimate goal of a Boston Qualifier in 2023. Two more chances to do it—Chicago and CIM. Now for some rest and a short work week before heading off to Mexico!

Didn’t do any training other than @orangetheory which is a huge testament to how much it has improved my endurance this last year.
