Well, I fell off the training wagon HARD this week, y'all 🤕 Nope, not injured, thank goodness! I just couldn't fit it all in then lost all sense of discipline 🤷♀️ I had meetings/appointments after school 3 days this week, so I wasn't able to run home per usual. Staring down a 10 miler after a 12 hour day was just too daunting and waking up before 4 AM to get my run in was just not happening this week -- end of the year teacher tired is really kicking in 😴 By Thursday things had calmed down, but I grabbed the wrong pair of tights for my run home. We all have a pair: you know, the ones that you need to toss because they just won't stay up! Well, after showing my 🍑 to all of Chinatown for 4 miles, I called it quits 🤣 By Friday, thunderstorms were thrown into the mix 😭 After 13 marathons, I know that some weeks are like this, 3 runs a week is what normal runners do, & sometimes it's okay to take a step back when you have too many plates spinning. There are still 6 weeks to go before my marathon & one lower mileage week isn't going to stop me from crossing the finish line ♥️ My running gear is packed and ready for tomorrow! ❓What do y'all do when schedule/weather simply doesn't permit you to keep up with your training? 2 a days? Run what you can, even if it's just a mile? Just be okay with it? Gotta tell ya, I woke up with little expectations but ended up having a lot of fun. The @illinoismarathon 13.1 was a mostly flat, fun course with more crowd support than I expected. I really liked the Champagne-Urbana landscape, running through pockets of local main streets, parks, and rural neighborhoods. It was a good mix! Had @king_frankie85 as my hype man and Jay as our local guide. Was THRILLED to see my friend @_davidbein at the finish. The Reunited Half lived up to the name! This Half -Marathon owed me nothing ..this was super fun 🤩, the route, the course, the vibes , all was amazing 🤩. My goal was to get 2 hours or a little under , and I got exactly at 2 which I am way more than happy about . The first half of the race I went out way too fast almost 7 min mile , which wow 🤩 , but wasn’t the time .., but the tailwind got me 😂🏃🏾♂️. The next half was great just coasted scaled my pace back, it got warm 🥵, but what a way to finish inside memorial 🏟️ with tons of people cheering 📣 through the finish line. Alright, Alright, Alright ..It’s RACE WEEK with @illinoismarathon, It’s Earth 🌍 Day, and It’s #neverskipamonday which got me out after work to get in a nice 6 miles 🏃🏾♂️. Excited about this Saturday to run the @illinoismarathon Half Marathon in Champaign - Urbana, IL . I’ve heard nothing but great things about this race and it’s course . The race starts near the State Farm Center on First Street, runs through the University of Illinois campus, heads into east Urbana, including a tour through Meadowbrook Park, comes back onto campus, and then finishes at the 50 yard line of historic Memorial Stadium 🏟️ 🎉🏅. Medal Monday: Ringing in my 34th birthday doing what I love. When I first signed up for this race, I thought it was a good idea lol. Training for a 15-mile race while training for a half ironman is another level. I couldn’t help myself doing a race on my actual birthday and out in nature, I was ready to be out there and celebrate. What made it better was having @heybtay and @jtully2486 join in on the fun. Once the race began the hills showed up, 2362 feet of elevation gained made this very hard lol. I had trained but these hills took my breath literally. After the 1st loop I wanted to stop, this felt hard, but I trained even harder, so I was not quitting. The trail community is like no other, even when I was tired as runners would pass by, they would check up on me and ask if I was ok and kept telling me good job. That was enough for me to keep going. This wasn’t my fastest run but that wasn’t the point, this was about having fun and enjoying the views, which is exactly what I did. I smiled, I cried (a lot) but when I cried these two butterflies would appear didn’t think much of it but then realized my sis and grandma were out there with me. When the helping crew found out it was my birthday they would start singing and yelling to make me smile and to make this race better. This race exceeded my expectations, and I am glad I did it. Now it is time to decrease my running mileage and give all my focus to tri training. Made it to 8 miles this weekend. Longest distance I probably ever ran in my life. I’m kind of enjoying these longer runs. Specifically the part where my body just accepts that it’s running. The tightness and soreness fade a bit, I get use to the breathing, the faster heart rate, and I’m running. Still struggle to sometimes fully celebrate my progress, especially when I use to run a lot faster than I do now. But learning to accept that I’ve made it here as I am. A big big day for me! My first outdoor 5k and my second 5k EVER! I started running at the beginning of the year 3-4 times a week. I started with 1 minute— that’s all. Each week I would add a minute, until finally I ran a mile. Then I downloaded the runner app for the free trial and screen shot a bunch of plans and then deleted it 😂 I’ve been following those plans for 3 weeks now and it’s going great! I like that it’s given me some structure and every morning when I wake up and I know it’s a run day— I’m elated! I can’t explain in words what running has become for me but I love it. Just last year I was pushing the narrative that “I’m not a runner”… “I’ll never be a runner”, but here I am! I AM A RUNNER! I can’t wait for all of the training and the races I have coming up this year: @navypierchicago 5k @donut5k @chicago10k And finally finishing out the year with the: @all_chocolate_kitchen 1/2 marathon in November! I can’t wait to see how much I grow in this sport and I’m excited to hopefully take on a full marathon next year! Fun weekend in Kansas City with Robert and Candice! Met them in Jamaica for Hanson's Back to the Island event where Robert said he was interested in running his first half marathon. Say no more! He not only completed it, despite being injured, but crushed his first one at just over 2 hours (I'm sure he would've been sub 2 if I hadn't slowed him down the first 1.5 miles)! I was slower than ever but getting back into training post tax day. Happy to have half marathon #74 and state #42 checked off! We also ate some delicious Thai food, visited KC Wine Co where we tried wine flights and played 80s and 90s music bingo, ate Q39 BBQ, went to a suburban night club and relaxed on Sunday.
