I've always been just a tad bit extra. Yes, I arrived at my wedding in a boat festooned with flowers and my dad by my side and purple rhinestones in my bouquet (zoom in). I grew up believing the world was my oyster because of my dad. If my mom said no to something because it was too much, unnecessary or over the top, I knew my daddy would come to my rescue. Yes, I have always been a daddy's girl. My dad was my first love - he showed me how to love and how to be loved. That love let me know that one day I would meet someone who would love me for me, extra and all, and would do what he could to make certain he lived up to the standard my first love created. There's nothing like a father's love. I am soooo lucky to call this kind, gentle soul my father. The older I become, the more I appreciate what a special gift my father's love has been. THIS IS US ... 2 days shy of 365 days together sheltering in place. ELEVEN ... we celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary yesterday. We were fixed up by a 3 friends. Well, that’s half the story. Three years before the actual fix up, one of the 3 friends told me she thought Todd and I would be great together but she didn’t really know him and was going to have to jump through hoops to figure out how to introduce us. I passed. Then the 2 other friends met him, conferred with the first friend and called to tell me about this great guy they worked with that I had to meet. Once I realized they were talking about the same guy friend 1 had mentioned 3 years prior I started to pay attention. My friends were right ... and here we are 15 years in. Definitely, the BEST fix-up of my life! I thought I “knew” he was the one, but it was when my dad said, “Baby, Todd is perfect for you. You are both the same kind of special. If I die tomorrow, I’ll die a happy man,” that I really knew. I married adventure and I wouldn’t have it any other way. T R A V E L ... I've been grounded since March 5th when I returned to NYC from the @altsummit in Palm Springs, CA. We had a number of trips planned for 2020, but 2020 had other plans for us. I've lived in New York for 20 years and I think this is the first time I haven't been on a plane heading someplace at least once every 6 or 8 weeks. 🏈 GAME DAY ... If you're new around here, you may be surprised to learn that I'm a BIG college football fan. One of my favorite tv shows is @collegegameday. Over the course of the past 11 years, fall and college football have become synonmous for me. But trust me, no one was more surprised than my college girlfriends . . . what happened? I met my husband and his Saturdays during the Fall were consumed with all things college football, in particular, @ou_football. So what's a girl to do? At first I would read a magazine while "watching" the game with him. Then, I went to Dallas for The Red River Rivalry ( #oufootball vs @texasfootball) & girlfriend, let me tell you! I saw Football Season in a while new light. Right now though, I'm conflicted. As much as I love college football and my family's Fall traditions, I have very mixed feelings about the decisions made by the Big 12, the SEC and now the Big 10 to proceed with the season in the middle of a pandemic that disproportionately affects Black and brown people (many of whom are the student athletes on the field who, unlike the pros, are not deriving economic benefit). I don't have answers, but thus far the joy that I get from college football isn't quite the same this year.

Navigation - managing Google maps, Waze, etc (but soo much better than a paper map! Yesterday was a GOOD DAY. We had a plan, but failed to truly execute. We were going to the beach but in our haste to get there, we forgot to bring or buy chairs, towels, an umbrella - you know beach essentials ... thank God for good friends with kind hearts! Every time I post about travel, I get lots of questions from you guys in my DMs about trip planning, packing, and places to visit. So, I thought I'd share my top 5 travel hacks: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Wear the same thing on both your departure and return trips. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Read about where you're going a few weeks prior to leaving so that you can get a sense of the place, any customs, must see spots/museums/monuments and popular restaurants. Ask friends who've been there before for their recommendations. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Choose a wardrobe color way. With a focus on one or two colors you can mix and match easily and minimize the number of shoes and accessories you need. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. Hydrate while traveling. Buy that expensive bottle of water at the airport or bring a collapsible one with you and drink as much water as your bladder will permit while en route to your destination. New time zones, dry air, high altitudes, jet lag, dry skin, poor circulation and dry hair can all be aided by good ole h2o. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5. Take a few photos as you're packing. God forbid you check your bag and it gets lost and you can't quite remember what you paced! A few photos stored on your phone will provide a fairly decent catalog of what was in your suitcase. Wanderlust is real. I love being at home, but I am most definitely in my happy place when experiencing life elsewhere. Destination? St. Barth's. It’s been a GOOD weekend. Sooo thankful for time spent in Dallas with friends who have become like family. BRB ... once college football season is over that is 😜. Ya'll may not know this about me, but I'm a HUGE college football fan. I went to @uofmichigan so it's no surprise, right? Well, truth be told, although I am a Wolverine through and through, my love for college football was kindled when I met my husband – a die-hard @ou_football fanatic. It wasn't love at first sight, I'd experienced many a football Saturday ... but it was clear that in @heymisterc's world, Saturdays in the Fall were for watching football starting off with @espn's @collegegameday and ending with the post-game wrap up show. What's a gal to do? This was before @instagram, so I read magazines while he rode an emotional roller coaster as his beloved #Sooners duked it out on the gridiron week after week. To be honest, the Southern football traditions are what won me over. Well, that and watching my husband and his friends; grown men whose love of their university days and friendships were cemented with each game watched together whether from the comfort of their family rooms (they have a sick text chain) or together in person at a stadium packed with cheering fans. The pomp and circumstance of the Southern football tradition sucked me in. Watching the Sooner Schooner pulled onto the field by two white ponies (even at away games!) after every touch down, the rifles going off to signal a touchdown, the fans and the tailgating. Ya'll, you Southerners know how to do it up! From the outfits, to the food to just the overall energy of the day. I guess it's the warm weather, because no one is walking around in cute dresses and cowboy boots in the middle of October at a football game in Ann Arbor.
