When I woke up the next day, I was a bit disappointed to see that the sky was completely blue with not a single cloud, far from the promised inversion layer. It was too nice and hot to go anywhere, but since I had plenty of time, I didn't want to miss the opportunity to explore another peak. Although I didn't feel very well, my progress on Sentinel Peak was extremely slow, but I finally made it after lunchtime. I had lunch up there, took a siesta, and didn't even take too many photos because everything was too bright in the midday sunshine. Since I was moving slowly, I decided to stay another night in the mice hostel. This time, I was a bit smarter with my food and hung absolutely everything. ~ Happy (belated) Earth Day 🌏 I was out of cell service on Earth Day so here is my post. I took this photo at Lake Wānaka of this lonely willow tree. This willow tree started off more than 80 years ago as a fencepost. The fence post was made from a branch of a nearby willow and it took root in the lake. This tree has been growing there ever since. This is one of the most photographed trees in Aotearoa. I decided to put my own spin on it by photographing it in twilight under the moon with a long exposure. It was just after sunset so there were still bits of pink in the sky. It ended up being a gorgeous shot. The natural world holds so much beauty and I have learned so much about nature and my place in nature in Aotearoa. I have had some amazingly magical experiences with nature in Aotearoa. This planet is truly beautiful and we must do all we can to protect it.
