Large fires can start from a single spark. Abinadi was only one man testifying against a powerful king and his court. His words were rejected for the most part, and he was sentenced to death. Yet his testimony of Jesus Christ sparked something inside the young priest Alma. That spark of conversion slowly grew as Alma brought many others to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. The flames that killed Abinadi eventually died out, but the fire of faith that his words created would have a lasting influence on the Nephites—and on people who read his words today. I had a special experience with the security guard. He shared that he has been providing security for the temple for a couple of months, yet he didn’t know what church it was for or even what the building was. He shared his genuine curiosity and I was able to teach him a little about the temple and the hope and peace that can be ours when we worship inside. I had what I hope to be an unforgettable experience attending the live broadcast of the Manti Utah Temple dedication. I did so in Aurora, Utah. The very chapel that I was blessed as an infant, where I attended primary, and where I was asked to share the invaluable lessons that I learned while serving a mission. • Temple President Richard Wheeler shared the biblical story of Ezekiel and his vision of wading into the refreshing river that cut straight to my core. He taught that our attendance in the temple is like Ezekiel obeying the heavenly messenger to measure the depth of the river at different points of the bank. His first time in, he was only able to get his feet wet. Going further down the bank as instructed, he measured the depth of the water to be about waist high. Lastly, he measures that the depth of the river is impassable. A river fully refreshing to those willing to be immersed. “This is a beautiful illustration of what the temple can become to all of us as we wade into its waters again and again. If we understand or experience less than the ideal in the temple, it is imperative that we do not abandon the river. We must continue down the bank and wade in its waters throughout our lifetime.” • A surprise that couldn’t have been more pleasant was having our beloved prophet attend and offer the dedicatory prayer. This general conference has been such a spiritually defining experience for me. My questions have been answered, faith fortified, confidence increased, and charity is just overfilling my soul.
