🌟 Major unpopular opinion. I know. You hate me. Waking up not hungry in the morning is NOT a flex. It's a sign of stress. 😰 Stress does a number on the body! I have looked at so many HTMA tests to see that stress is effecting every person. Stress can be from external factors - job, relationships, life. 🌟 Are you confused on the labels at the grocery store? Sometimes it can be confusing deciphering the labels when it comes to meat at the grocery store. I have been there. I used to pick things based on the words like: All natural No Hormones Cage Free Let's break some of this down... All Natural - This comes on just about every food label and it means nothing really. It tells you nothing in terms of how the meat was raised or the living conditions. What you do know for sure is no colors were added to this product. No Hormones Added - The US government already prohibits the use of hormones in all production of chicken, turkey, or pork. So big whoop. Here is what I look for when it comes to beef: 🥩 Organic Grass-Fed - Just about every piece of meat that comes into my house is organic grass-fed beef. This means that cows live in a humane environment and are able to graze in the outdoor air in pastures for most the year. Some animals are fed supplemental organic grain. In the winter months they are fed hay (that hasn't been sprayed with chemicals) and organic feed. My heart is for the farmer. My grandfather was a dairy farmer in the upper peninsula of Michigan. He never wanted to use the chemicals that were being introduced in the 40s and the 50s to "make farming easier". I'm sometimes jealous of my mom and the beautiful meat and milk they had at their fingertips. She, on the other hand, has "fond" memories of pulling rocks from the ground as to not ruin the tractors or pulling garlic mustard by hand. 👩🏻‍🌾👨🏻‍🌾 Get to know your farmer. Farmers who raise cattle, chicken, turkey, and pork care for the land, care for their animals, and love to show off their farm. There are many great local farmers! 🌟 Are you confused about the chicken/egg label at the store? My previous post unpacked beef labels: All natural No Hormones In terms of poultry this is what you see: 🌾 Vegetarian Diet - Fun Fact! Chickens aren't vegetarians. Chickens (and turkeys) are omnivores! They scratch the surface of the ground for seeds and insects. They also LOVE to eat animals as large as lizards, small snakes, and young mice Feeding chickens a vegetarian diet makes for low nutrient density and quality of the product. And it's not even what they like to eat. 🥚 Cage Free/ Free Range - This means that the chickens are not in a cage. Period. These birds have limited (if any at all) access to the outdoors. They may have some room to lift their wings, but do not have much more room than a caged bird. These birds can be in large barns with access to unlimited food and water. Here is what I look for when I am purchasing poultry: 🐓 Organic & Pasture Raised - Happy birds have access the outdoors where they get to scratch and peck at the ground looks for bugs, worms, grubs, etc. Birds are housed in barns or enclosures overnight to protect from predators. They have access to water and are fed supplement organic feed of grains and protein. Since I am a chicken tender (lol), I know that these birds are fun animals that produce beautiful and delicious food when given the right humane and stress free environment. You can tell the difference in quality of eggs and meat from your conventional store bought chicken purchased from a local farmer. There are so many great local farmers. 🌟 Did you catch my Label Reading Live? If you didn't you can go back and watch it. I quickly shared the things that I look for on my food labels. Non-GMO and Organic are two of the most common food labels and they are often paired together. I typically look for Non-GMO AND Organic items. But what do those two labels really mean? 🌱 Non-GMO This label can be on a lot of products - from fruit to chips. Just because something is Non-GMO does not mean that it is organic. Non-GMO simply means non-genetically modified organisms. Non-GMO food items can still be sprayed with synthetic pesticides or Roundup herbicides. Animals can be given antibiotics multiple times and the neurotoxin hexane can be used during production. 🍓 Organic Organic foods are typically grown on farms have to adhere to soil quality standards and allow for natural animal behaviors (like grazing). GMO's, synthetic pesticides and Roundup herbicides cannot be used. Animals are not given antibiotics or hormones and neurotoxins like hexane cannot be used. I typically choose certified organic products when I can. If your budget does not allow for all organic products, I'd recommend shopping the Dirty Dozen and the Clean 15. Purchasing the Dirty Dozen as your organic products and conventional products for the rest. There can be some pretty junky "organic" packaged foods so make sure you are reading your ingredient labels. Environmental Working Group (EWG) comes out with a list every year of the fruits and vegetables that are either HIGH risk of pesticides and LOW risk of pesticides. I encourage all of my clients to eat organic as much as possible in order to 🥦 Incorporate mineral rich food into their food lifestyle - organic foods are grown in soil that is more mineral rich than conventional over farmed land. 🥦 Refrain from excess toxins, pesticides and residue - organic foods cannot be sprayed with toxic chemicals or pesticides. You can keep these two list in mind when shopping for your fruits and veggies. Opt for organic when purchasing food that has a soft eatable skin or outer layer. 🌟 I've been on a blood sugar kick. All of my recent conversations have been about blood sugar. This is a topic that is not really talked much about because I don't think many actually understand the process. You can look back at my last few posts to understand a little more about the beautiful process. When I am looking at HTMA results, I can see if you an individual is struggling with blood sugar regulation. The key singular minerals I look at are: Calcium (Ca) 〰️ Calcium is needed for the release of insulin from the pancreas. Magnesium (Mg) 〰️ Magnesium is needed for the production of insulin and for insulin to actually work. Potassium (K) 〰️ Potassium is needed to get that glucose into the cells. Sodium (Na) 〰️ Sodium and Potassium create a solvent needed for cell permeability. The ratio I consider is: Ca/Mg Ratio - The Blood Sugar Ratio When I see a Ca/Mg ratio that is LOW I immediately think there is some kind of stress in the body. Then I think that this individual is struggling with HIGH blood sugar. High blood sugar happens when the cells have become resistant to sugar that you get from food. This person might be feeling excessive thirst, consistent hunger, needing that sugar boost mid-day, but also feeling a lot of fatigue. When I see a Ca/Mg ratio that is HIGH I think that this individual is not eating enough food during the day. HIGH Ca/Mg ratio effects the glucose regulation and begins to disrupt the sensitivity of your cells to insulin. This person is struggling with low blood sugar and can feel hangry and shaky between meals, suffer from headaches and brain fog. This is why I love using an HTMA. You don't have to guess at how to support your body. Blood sugar imbalance is caused by under-eating and relying on carbs for fuel instead of protein and fat and carbs for sustained energy. 🌟 You need energy to get through your day, right? Well your body has a sophisticated system for keeping energy levels steady throughout the day. Blood Sugar Regulation. Your body is going to prioritize blood sugar regulation over all other functions. You have a lot you need to get done in one day, girlfriend. However, in our fast-paced, need a food hack, skip breakfast, grab something quick, eat in the car world, this system is easily stressed. The choices you make about your food lifestyle + eating patterns can either support or sabotage this delicate balance. Healthy blood sugar regulation should be a priority for anyone seeking to heal, fight inflammation, create steady energy, have a healthy sustainable weight, and balance hormones. When you eat a high-carb (low-fat) meal, glucose floods the bloodstream. To bring your blood sugar back into a stable range, your pancreas releases a hormone called INSULIN. 🌟 I don't know if you're ready to hear this, but... Ladies...Waking up at 6:00am and waiting to eat until 11:00am or 12:00pm or 1:00pm is doing absolutely NOTHING for your blood sugar or your hormones. You aren't intermittent fasting. You are starving yourself. In order to even begin to balance your hormones, you HAVE to balance your blood sugar. Ok, that got intense...Here's how to start: 🌟 Morning light before phone light. Put the phone down and get some morning light in your eyes. Head outside and gaze at the morning sky, breathe in the air of the new day. 🌟 Mineral rich water and a pinch of salt first. 🌟 Taylor Swift and my HTMA... The Eras Tour! OH MY...Quite the experience. How does she do it?? 3 hours of nonstop performing. Dancing, singing, outfit changes. ALL IN HEELS. Taylor Swift has been the soundtrack to my life with my girls. We have seen her perform twice now. And it is amazing! And more importantly an amazing experience to share with my girls. For those of you who aren't Swifties, hang on for this. The crying began immediately and lasted about 30 minutes. I felt like I was going to pass out. I felt overwhelmed. I felt over-stimulated. I needed to sit down. I wanted to close my eyes, but my body would not allow me to. I came to the realization that my nervous system was shot. I could no longer handle the noise or the energy. My Ca/P ratio is so low -> chronic state of fight-or-flight. My Na/K ratio is off the charts -> signal of a stress response. My Ca/K ratio is high -> thyroid is not utilizing hormone. 🌟 Do you ever feel like your gut is out of order? Over the past couple of years I have struggled with a TON of bloating and a very gurgly "stomach". I am getting to the root of the problem now, but I was sooo mad and so frustrated and full of negative self talk (which actually doesn't help). What really helped me was a castor oil pack. For real. 🌟 Need a little more vitality?? Stressed out... Pt 2️⃣ The next marker I look at on your HTMA to see how your body is responding to stress is the Sodium (Na) / Potassium (K) ratio. This is also known as the Vitality Ratio. Did you know that every cell in your body has a sodium potassium pump that controls movement in and out of the cell. Nothing exits or enters the cell without this pump. This might be one of the most important ratios on the test and this is also the hardest part of any protocol. Why? You cannot exactly eat or supplement your way out of this ratio. This is all about how you are emotionally handling stress on a daily basis and that is HARD!! 〰️ Sodium (Na) / Potassium (K) Low Na/K ratio feels likes extreme exhaustion because you have been experiencing long term chronic stress. High Na/K ratio feels like irrational fear and anger. This suggests there is acute stress and systemic inflammation and pain in the body that needs to be addressed.
